TSB Necessary?

not sure if im posting this in the right section, but oh well. My question is a TSB necessary?

 

There are over a dozen tsb's. Which one are you talking about.

And by definition, no, it is not necessary, otherwise it would be a recall.

 

If they are willing to make a change to thousands of vehicles, costing them a ton of money, its probably a safe bet that some people either died or came very close. They don't take TSB's lightly. It is usually because there is a possibilty of catastrophic failure.

 

You are thing of a recall. All a TSB is is a set of instructions, meant for the tech, on how to diagnose and fix particular issues that are fairly unique to a certain vehicle.

 

I was reffering to the AAL TSB

 

If you haul a lot, and you bottom out when doing so, then it is necessary. Otherwise, it is not.

 

wow, yeah I occasionally have to haul a lot of weight in the bed for materials for work.

 

Does someone know where to get copy's of these TSB?
TSB-0064-10, Engine and cooling engine.
TSB-0088-10, Power train automatic transmission.
TSB-0033-11, Electrical system integrated trailer brake control.
TSB-0122-11, air bags; Replacing the seat covers for vehicles with side airbags.

let me say becasue im a tech. just becasue u come in and say u found tsb's and you want them all perofrmed doesnt mean youll get your way. we have to duplicate the problem first.

 

for the TSB leaf do you load 500lbs in the customer's bed and drive over speed bumps? what about the blower motor? mine only makes loud noise when it's cold out in the early morning...

 

Yes that's been noted as a common thing for them to request actually.

They can also look to see if your bump stops have been hitting the frame.

I think all he's saying is don't waltz in there like you own the place just because you printed out a tsb. All a tsb is is instructions for how to fix a problem. They have to figure out if your vehicle has the problem before they fix it. Only fair.

 

KPT is right. we look at bump stops and we know what a saggy rear feels like. and yes for the blower motor. we may request the vehicle to be left over night. diag in the morning.

i'm jumping in this thread late. but i just had the rear leaf tsb done on my 2011 tacoma. the first dealership DID want me to replicate it with weight and have a tech look at it. the second dealership i called did it all over the phone and no questions asked. just got it back today, done. rides about the same

 

I'd imagine it would depend on what the TSB is, as well. Granted I don't work at a dealer like lotsoftoys but I think something like say the transmission TSB which would just require a computer reflash would be a lot easier to get done than say the rear leaf TSB where they would actually need to install parts and would be more likely to actually want to see the problem.
