Just Got My Tranny Flushed

The local dealership charged me $170 for a complete tranny flush. The service guy said he gave me that quote before they got into it. When I picked it up he told me it actually took 18 quarts and not the 16 he estimated originally. I also double checked it all noticed where they had tampered with the lines to hook it up to their machine or whatever and I also saw where they pulled the drain plug to check the fluid level (had oil residue around it). They also did power window warranty work on one of my windows recently with no hassle even though I didn't even purchase my truck from them. So props to them!

That is a good deal. My local dealer quoted me $250. I bought the fluid myself and just did the 3 quart change. Fluid is $8, so for your flush the fluid would have been $144 retail.

Miles? How's the tranny shift now?

 

My truck had around 63,000 miles. No big shifting issues beforehand. I was just doing typical maintenance.

At most the tranny would wind up (engine rev up) once in a blue moon before shifting. Me and the dealership came to the conclusion this may have been cause the tranny was cold. I haven't had any of these mentioned issues yet since the flush.

 

Hmm.. I called the dealer and they said its good til 100,000? I'm coming up to 60 and was going to flush it....

 

Nov. 09 Toyota updated the recommended maintenance to recommend tranny fluid change at 60k miles.

 

Oh is this true? Hmm.. I'll go in there tomorrow and see they say. I need it done soon in that case.

Depending on how much they had to flush through and factoring in dealership profit and hourly labor, that's about right. Sucks, donut?

 

Warranty work can be done at any dealership. They get paid for it by toyota.
Trans flush is a transfusion, at best. You never get all the old fluid out. It's still better than a drain and fill, which won't take care of the trans cooler nor the torque converter.

I just called 3 local dealers (Toyota of New Orleans, Lakeside Toyota, and Ray Brandt) and they all said a flush is required at 100k.

 

Make that 5 dealers. All said 100k. If someone can show me where it says 60k, that'd be great. I have 57,200 right now.

 

Bump.. 60,000 or 100,000??

 

I'd be doing the first flush at 60.
