My mechanic buddy found a 4:10 front diff from a 4cyl at a junkyard. It cost $500.00, but it came with a 3 month warranty.

My mechanic buddy also had a 4:10 pinion from a 4cyl on hand already. He swapped that into my existing LSD equipped rear diff.

So, now I have FACTORY Toyota 4:10 gears on my 2006 4.0L in the front and the rear, and I kept my factory LSD in the rear also!

Total parts and labor was $1350.00 out the door. (SCORE!)

At this price I let him keep my old 3:73 front diff and the 3:73 pinion he pulled from my rear diff. I had no need for them and the price was sort of based on him keeping my old parts. (He runs a small garage, and does A LOT of Toyota work, he has some sick 1st gens too!)

I had it up in the woods yesterday and it is freaking awesome.
It was shifting perfectly, and was just climbing the hills soooo nice! Tons of power, but not geared overly low at all...

I am super happy I did it.

New pic with the new tires, I am running 255/85/16's now...

The 4:10's are perfect for 33" tires IMHO.

It is within like 40 or 50 RPM of what the stock tires and gears were at @ 65mph.

(It is geared just a tad LOWER by 41 RPM) according to TW's own tire size calc.

4:30's would just give you crummier hi-way mileage, and you don't need them for 33's.

The power you get (back) with the 4:10's kicks ass!

EDIT: Where did that post go?:spy::spy:

I tried editing but end up pressing delete instead of save.
Gotcha I am plannign to use them with stock tires. Just need more pullign power to be able to drag my LC easier. When you said mechanic had 4.10 from 4 cyl. Which Toyota he had 4.10 from, 1gen pickup?

Rear pinion came from a 2nd gen, not sure if a 1st gen would work or not...

Just came across this thread since I am interested in re-gearing. You're one of the few people that went into details about converting from 3.73 to 4.10.

From what I have read you have to replace the front diff to convert to 4.10 and the back is just new gears only. Do you know if there is a way to just replace the gears in the front or is that only an option with 4.56?

Not sure if you have the answers but any advice would be helpful!

You have to replace the carrier. Some folks find it easier to source an entire used diff from a junkyard rather than do that.

I know people have probably posted but I didnt care to read.... Call ECGS they'll hook you up. That's what I did and even get an ARB locker installed.... Also you can send in your old diff and they'll subtract like $250 from the final bill.. They'll take care of you OP good luck

edit: maybe I should've read... you already got your stuff....
