bilstien's 5100 noob question?...

just got these rear 5100 in and was going to install but realized they were the same length as the stock TRD OR billies... aren't these suppose to be a bit longer than the stock ones or are they the same length? The salesman said that they are supposed to be longer in length compared to the stock before i bought them... dont have the stock one next to it to compare length but they are the same length...check it out and let me know...

They don't add any extra lift from your stock shocks....I just put my lift in yesterday. They looked pretty similar but didn't compare them side by side.

 

They are gonna ride a lot better than the stock shocks

 

I'm pretty sure they are the same travel wise as stock. That's primarily why they say they're good up to 1" lift. Any more lift than that and your loosing down travel. They are valved way better than the TRD shocks, you'll be happy!

 

5100 rear shocks don't add any ride height to your truck. No rear shock does.

If that's what you're looking for, you need to add either an "add a leaf" to your leaf pack, a block between your springs and axle, or a replacement leaf pack.

Now, if you're planning on doing those things, you may want a slightly longer shock than the 5100s that you've purchased. Depends on how much height you're planning on adding.

5100s have been known to fail due to over-extension.

However, the opposite case is more likely, failure due to bottoming out the shock before you hit the axle bump stop. So use caution here.

Short answer:
If you're leaving it stock or going with a 1" block or 1.5" add-a-leaf, I'd just install the shocks you already bought, and call it a day.

 

On DSM it says they recomend these shocks for a 2" lift I believe. I dont think you need to worry about it for a mild lift. Go check out dsm to be sure

 

thanks for all the replies guys... i feel like an idiot i forgot to mentioned that i have an AAL installed too... i thought that the 5100 were suppose to be longer to increase the down travel...but if it doesnt increase the down travel, i kind see it as a waste because i like the way my car rides already...
thinking about just refunding these and just get real suspensions

 

Nope, they are for stock to mild rear lifts only. They are no longer than stock.

 

they are 26.5 inches... does anyone know if theres any that is 30 inches long? and if it was 30 inches, will it fit?

Anyone knows if the eye to eye shocks work on our trucks?
Since our shocks are stem to eye...

 

You can get longer ones too depending on tour leaf pack application.

You have to get a converter pack, if your refering to the 5150 shocks for example. They're like 20 bucks and are super easy to convert.
