dual shocks

are there any companies that make dual shock setups for the 09 tacoma?

 

Not really. Its pointless. Unless your talking about a Coilover and Bypass.

 

You can run a secondary shock using the TC LCA and upper hoop. Very expensive route but it is what it is... LCA is like 1600.00 and the upper hoop is around 350.00

I'm still learning how to setup a good suspension setup... but in a typical dual setup wouldn't you want one to be the Coilovers and the second one something like a dual or triple bypass? So you can tune it?

 

I hear ya on the LT but I haven't decided if I'm just being stubborn and want to build a beefy MT setup or join the club and go LT. The shitty part about a beefy MT setup is that I could just go LT for the same price or less even... I've already got Dr Coilovers and Camburg UCAs so I'm half way there in a sense...

I've already got a mild MT setup and was just curious more than anything about the stock LCA thing. Ideally I want my truck low with great suspension and good tires.

 

When you run a dual shock, you make your coil overs a coil carrier (basically take the valving out) and put all the valving into the triple or double bypass and tune hell out of that. Of course there are different schools of thought.

I dont understand how you can get extra tuning out of running a coil over and a smooth body

Yeah that's kinda how I see it.. either a beefy MT or a lower end LT...


TC LCA: 1600
TC dual 2.5 shock hoop: 375
TC UCA: 650
Racerunner 2.5F 2.0R Coilovers/shocks: 1700
Racerunner 2.5 piggyback bypass shocks: 15-1800
Deaver J66 leafs: 650

This is just an example as I pulled some parts that came to mind.. yeah we can swap out arts here n there but this is just for quick reference... so totalling about 5600 for an above average MT setup?

which equals just under $4000.

You can get a new LT kit for around $3000 and find 2.5x8" coilover for $800.

Oh no doubt I understand that going this route is just as costly as a LT setup... I was just kinda referring to the OPs question plus adding a little bit of what I've been thinking about and wondering how it would handle.

 

There seems to be a little misconception running dual shocks, I wouldn't call it a waste of time, anything that has wheels & uses springs for suspension whether front or rear, IFS or solid axle has to have dampening to compensate & soften heavier spring rates, dbl the shock value you dbl the dampening, now is it possible to dbl shock IFS ? Yes, Is it practical, I'd say no, but dbl shocking the rear wouldnt necessarily be a bad thing, I had 8 shocks on my '72 Power Wagon, it had 1 ton leafs & needed all the dampening i could give it...
