I thought of that too, but Nikon is discontinuing the D700 and if I'm paying that much for a camera I wanna buy new. Also the crop factor does help me out when I'm shooting sports.

I'm bringing this over here, from Dgrin

Since the D800 is more of a D3x replace more than anything, maybe the D400 will be built more like the D3s

Matt's a nice guy but his is just one opinion. To me, the reason to buy a body has more to do with what you need to do your thing. If you're in the D3x category, you probably knew of the pending release before buying--so I don't buy the argument people are pissed or annoyed. Nor do I buy the argument Nikon's strategies are any better or worse than any other manufacturer.

Regardless, this new body is an awesome piece of work for you Nikon guys. And for new dSLR shooters wanting to upgrade, I'd have a hard time dissuading someone from this body.

Next on the new body front, the new Canon D1x

To me, it seems like the way to go is if you're on the D3 or equiv. Probably not worth upgrading. If you've got an older body and want to upgrade, this is for you.

    [no-emotions]

What reasons are those? Are you biased because your style/technique flows better with Nikon? What proof are you referring to?

    [/no-emotions]

The D800 isn't just aimed at studio work. It is just an upgraded all-around prosumer camera basically...new video, ability to downsize files like the 5D2, dx mode with 11mp (very nice), etc... (tons of features, not going to list). I'm not sure why but tons of people seem to think that they HAVE to have a fast fps burst? I must be missing something but usually the people that NEED the fps are the ones that will invest in a pro-sized body designed for sports/fast action stuff. I can see the argument being made that it is a smaller camera but if you still absolutely need fast fps and lightweight...pick up a mirrorless kit.

Anyone who is undecided on a camera...wait. This is the prime time for new camera's and lenses to be announced & shipped in time for summer. Personally, if I HAD to have a D800 (if a gig required it) then I would pre-order for now but, otherwise, just wait for Canon's response. Shoot, even Sony might have something under their sleeves...after all, it is THEIR sensor in Nikon's D800. Sony and Nikon should just work together on cameras 100% and be called "Sonikon".

Didnt you used to shoot nikon? lol

[edited to delete my "facts" dont want to be a douche]

what does it matter anyways. canon has their strong points over nikon too.

Besides, its not about what your shooting, its about what images you create

Here's some video shot on the Nikon.

    http://player.vimeo.com/video/36305675

I have to say that I'm not as impressed as I thought I'd be but I'm glad that Nikon "gets" it with regard to video now. I'd suggest this is on par with the 5dmkII.
