long bed to short bed

I want to put a short bed on my 09 access cab is it possible

 

The main problem that you are going to have is that the wheel well on the short bed isn't going to match up with the location of the tires on the long bed frame. So your options would be shorten the frame so you can move the rear tires up closer to the back of the cab or you could go the crazy body work option and cut a bout a 1 foot section out of the body behind the rear finder and in front of where the tail lights start then hack off the back of the frame and peice the 2 sections back together minus that 1 foot section you cut out. Either way not easy and or not cheap!

Well If your serious about it, you'll need to move the rear end forward. this involves relocating your springs forward, also frame clearance might be issue after being moved forward. Also back of the frame will need to be bodded. You'll need a shorter drive line.

It would be sweet looking though.

 

That picture is actually is what started me wanting to do this, i guess it will come down to cost of parts,and how much truck down time,

 

You making a crawler? or just want something different? You could just bob off the ass right after the rear fender... cheapest option probably.

 

I agree....hack off the existing long bed.

Where'd that truck come from anyway? You could probably do some research and find out WHO made that tacoma and ask them to build you one. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Thats is what I was thinking. Just swap frames. One of the reasons I bought the acces cab is cuz I wanted the longer bed, so I don't understand why you would want a shrort bed, but to each his own.

 

No need to call it a stupid Idea. You can't buy a truck with a acc. cab w/ a short bed. The one in the pic above is a prototype by toyota.

I think this would be great for a trail rig that is tired of hitting the back of the bed on rocks, it is very common for 1st gen tacos and toyota pickups to bob the bed for better off road use. The probably with bobbing 2nd gen taco is the bed is composite and not steel. This a useful idea, not stupid!

the bed can still be duck tailed i would not do it but it can be done. but the idea of changing the whole bed or cutting a foot out of the truck is stupid. not for an everyday vehicle.
