    SO you've never snowshoed before?!?!? You should have said something...

    Trekking poles are a must have, you have so much more stability with them. They saved me from having a broken ankle 2 weeks ago, if I didn't have my poles planted I would have lost my balance completely and my left ankle would have rolled.
    And snowshoeing burns 40% more energy than normal walking/hiking.

    No ... we're just learning ... never tried it before. Just trudged through the snow...which was harder. It was fun...and we'll do it again. We need to find areas that are easier for the dog; will probably try up by Lake Louise. The idea was to find a way to get into some areas we like to hunt, during this time of year...short of buying a snow machine. Plus simply getting out when the temps are warm enough...I'm grumpy enough without it being compounded by "cabin fever!" Just ask my wife...:D

    ...and:facepalm: you're right I should have asked you some questions. But it was still fun and we'll know more the next time. We weren't even sure how the old Army surplus snowshoes would work. Even with only one pole, I only fell once. :eek: Luckily I had a good idea how to get back up from watching my son on his snowboard. ;)

    getting back up after a fall is an important lesson. i did a faceplant last winter and took me a bit to get back up. somehow my tails got hooked together and so i was laying on my stomach in the snow trying to reach behind me and get my shoes unstuck. not fun. oh, and i was only about 50' from my truck at that point :eek:
    it is fun and a good work out. and i love getting into places in winter that i otherwise wouldn't be able to see - things look so different this time of year.
