V6 all the way. It's a truck so who cares about MPG's. Even then, in my V6 I still avg 20mpg's.

It looks like the majority pick the 4x4 V6 access cab. I think I will just forgo the TRD option to save some coin. I may even just pick up a 2011 with the TRD and save even more coin and get what I want. I just hate to see the extra MPG and $5 a gal.

Fair enough, test drive it with the auto and see what you think.

Sounds like you have done your research so +1 for you.

You never know when the 4x4 comes in handy, and if you drive with it in 2wd most of the time, I doubt you would ever notice a difference between the 2wd Tacoma and a 4x4 in 2wd.

I did a TON of research before I bought my truck, and I went for the SR5 because in the long run the mods I wanted to do would have worked out to be less then the TRD offroad package.

Also check sales and get to know the dealership you will be buying the truck through. I ended up saving about $8k on the price of my truck, cause I got to know the dealership and got invited to one of their big sales.

Sounds like your on the right track, and good luck on the purchase!

Yeah if I can get at least 20 mpg with a light foot that would be ok. I guess I will just forgo the TRD and get the Sr5, or maybe even pick up a 2011 with the TRD for even less.

also just to keep in mind......

in Canada we are paying $1.12 per liter for gas in Alberta and it can be as high as $1.35/liter in some provinces.

1 gallon works out to 3.78 liters

So if my math is right, currently I'm paying $4.23 per gallon right now, and can be dealing with paying $5.10 at the max.

Im commuting 372 kilometer = 231.2 mile each week, and happily driving my V6 Tacoma, and its only about $70 a week on gas.

Sounds like a sweet deal. $26,500 OTD would be perfect for me.

Yeah, I guess it's better to be happy with your truck than to save a few bucks on gas.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Keep bashing the I4 Auto. If you're looking for fuel economy buy an I.Q. Who are you passing on the Highway? Buy a Ferrari.

If you drive the 4 banger with some self control you'll get better gas mileage than a V6; if you drive the V6 with some self control your mpg will not be much less than the 4 banger. If you drive either without some self control your gas mileage will suck regardless of which truck you buy.

My DCSB 4X4 doesn't do bad in the snow; nothing like the traction you get when you drop it into 4X4 mode though. A 4X4 Tacoma will basically go anywhere.

You're spending a large chunk of change regardless of what truck you buy. Get one you can afford and the on that will make you happy.

    Good luck with your decision.

True, it looks like I will pull the trigger on either a 2012 V6 4x4 auto Access with SR5 package to save some coin. Either that or just wait till the end of the year and get a sweet deal on a 2012 v6 4x4 with TRD.

I learned this lesson. I bought a new '08 Accord EX-L with the I4. Gas mileage wasn't much better than my Tahoe and I just wasn't in love with that car even after modding it. I traded it in a year later on my Tacoma. Luckily I wasn't backwards on that car. I love the Tacoma.

If the difference between the I4 and V6 is keeping you alive, you're doing something wrong.
