There are dino results on a 4-runner floating around that show the deck plate mod gives the same gains as a CAI but only costs like $10.
You can also put the deck plate back in when you want to go in deep water or when its really cold out.
Most people on here went with the deck plate mod for these reasons.

I installed the K&N CAI well before I TW(bummer). Makes more noise under full throttle load, but can't really say that I get better gas mileage, maybe 1 mpg (if).......no tremendous increase in horsepower, sure looks cool, blah, blah, blah.....would I do it again, prolly not.

I agree. All show and no go. I feel like I wasted the money.

Any marine/boat shop should have one if you want to do it locally. Paid $13 for mine, which is a 4 inch screw-in. They are waterproof so I would recommend sealing with silicone between the face of the airbox and the seat of the plate. Point of the deck plate is to be able to close it up and go back to stock for deeper stuff, so the mounting should be waterproof as well. Here's mine.

No not worth the money, I installed one expecting to get a little better mileage thinking it would pay for itself in the long run. 50,000 miles later still waiting for that extra mileage to kick in.:annoyed:

just put a K&N cold air intake in mine and it feels like it drives brand new again and adds like 10 horsepower...doesnt seem like much but i could tell the difference. i love it! the only downside is that it causes you to really step on the petal and loose gas..but i recommend it :)

Do the deck plate mod and add in the air raid tube. That way mud and other stuff won't cover your filter. I only put a cai cause I broke my neck into the box... if you dead set ill swap ya lol
