Gas pedal - accelerator

I drove a tx pro 2012 Tacoma and was pretty disappointed. I found it difficult to disagree with th motor trend review. I felt like I had to stomp the pedal to get it to move. Interior wasn't all that impressive either.

What's the deal with the gas pedal? A v6 like that should shoot off the line.

Sounds like youve Already decided you dont want one...if you want a quicker responding drive, try driving around in 4 or 3, i do that when i want a more lively feel to my truck...but it seems like you came on here just to complain...you dont have to buy one you know

Mine gets up and goes pretty well for a 4wd truck. What exactly were you expecting? Was your last car a fast one?

 

What the hell does gas petal/throttle ratio and travel have to do with engine power? I hate when people state that they have to "really push the petal far to get it to go" and then try and make some connection to engine power output.

Anyways, I've heard the Ford Ecoboost is teh sh!t!!!1 LOLZ, go buy one of those.

 

i dont have any problems moving around. but i did notice when i first bought it that the gas peTal was hard to move. maybe i have gotten used to it.
i would test drive one again and go on a longer ride.

It's a heavy-ass truck. I find it very driveable for that category.

Responsive driving is what one buys a pony car or roadster for...

Edit: What the hell is Motor Trend doing? How do you lump THOSE vehicles in a review together? Shouldn't they be comparing the Tacoma to other midsize pickups? It's not like it's remotely designed to compete with fullsizers or...work vans?

 

My V6 has plenty of power. 0-60 in about 7 seconds in a truck is plenty for me.

Sounds like your having problems reaching the pedal...might try adjusting the seat forward a bit.

 

On my test drive, I thought the truck was missing some power.

When you test drive any car, you have to realize it is not broken in. My truck felt better after 500 miles, but really didn't fell loosened up until about 2,500.

Edit: I also went from a V8 manual Dakota to a V6 Automatic Tacoma. The direct connect to the trans for the manual vs the auto give you a feeling of more power.

 

I agree with some of the comments of the review, but personally, I don't mind the slow acceleration when I want to baby it, which is most of the time. I'm ok with leaning into it when I want more, but yeah, the pedal is "soft" feeling.

The interior comments, yeah, some of those are right on, the interior feels cheap in some areas.

I came from an older Lexus GS430 and so I come from way out of left field when I bought this truck. The things I miss are those obvious luxuries you don't get on the Tacoma.

What else are you considering?

 

The Tacoma has one of the weakest engines in its class in regards to power, but is supposed to be one of the most fuel efficient. Drop a super charger in a Tacoma and i guarantee you will get whiplash lol.

 

On paper. But it's also the fastest to 60 with the best braking distance on paper.


Hmmmm...I would argue it's now how much, but how you use it that matters...


The deciding factor for me, however, is that engine output doesn't come into it when the vehicle is broken down. And that is something I don't have to worry about.

 

Fastest 0-60 is nice if you are going to the drags I guess lol. I had the 2010 in automatic and thought the truck was a little weak for being a 4 liter...especially when towing. my 2012 6 speed appears to have a lot more balls...but I havent pulled anything yet...we'll see.
