So this technology was used in the 80's.... I don't know man. Let's get the CNC machine going and dyno turning!

lol, did you just try to qualify his claims by referring to a bunch of money spent on mods?
I've spent 30k on modding an ex-car. Would that be like having a doctorate in modiology ?

Kind of like the argument that if there were cheap HP to be gained, Toyota would have done it already,,, so any easy mod can't be a HP gainer...

There are inefficiencies on every motor manufactured. If there weren't, there would be no aftermarket for improvements.

It is all about finding them and capitalizing on them.

I am just another man who is just as falable as the next guy. Knowledge through the combined experiences I have undergone, including research as well as many much money spent, give me at least a little grasp on that which I am involved in.

Being aware of products that work on multiple platforms, as well as those that don't, including reasons for why helps to have a broad knowledge base. From that, one can take the principles of any specific component, and try to adapt to his own. Sometimes for benefit, sometimes for not.

The aftermarket would still be around. Look at all the TB spacer manufactures. Many of these people are trying to push 1950's things, and tell the masses they work on modern vehicles.

I was told by a toyota mechanic (and a tw member), that these engines are deliberately under-tuned, meaning there is room for improvement, toyota, (like any car maker), is not going to add stuff just to make it faster, they are only interested in what is the least expensive to mass produce. I think there is room to get more out of these engines, not a whole hell of a lot (unless you add a s/c), but there's some still to be had.
This thread has gotten me looking for a dyno shop in my area to put some numbers to the intake, exhaust and MAF calibrator, dynos don't lie. I want to put to rest the BS claims of the after-market companies that will say almost anything to get you to buy their products. I look forwards to seeing if this company can back their claims up, if they can, I would be interested for sure.

From everything I have read, the MAF Calibrator works. It leans the A/F ratio a bit more "optimally" under WOT conditions. Im not sure how this would work on a truck that see's alot of hauling/towing, as it could increase the exhaust temps. Right now, I regularly see temps of 1300 to 1400 unloaded, at cruise speds, and 1600 to 1700 towing.

The topic is a TB spacer, but the rest could apply to these.

I agree that the MAF works, the a/f ratio is better in WOT, but of course I almost never drive that way. With all the weight (rack/shell), plus tools and mats, i would love a little more torque lower in the band, say from 1200 to 2500, i feel that it would extend the life of the entire driveline. I'm 5000lbs with no load in the bed, I have felt that the stock engine is a little under powered and torqued as it is. If this guy can back his claims on a dyno of more torque lower in the band i will buy one.

Yeah, thats alot of weight. Im 4400 empty. However, when towing my boat, (3000# to 3700# depending on gear, and people), It doesnt feel underpowered. Hell.....it spins the tires if I get too liberal with the throtle :) BUT.....this is my opinion. Every engine is going to act differently in a different environt ment.

Interesting... I hadn't given much thought to higher exhaust temps using the MAF calibrator

It's only in that lower band i have issue with it. above 2500-3000? Sheeit, look out! She roars down the freeway, it still amazes me for all that weight just how quickly this truck can boogie

I have the same issue, keep an eye on this thread. I'm curious to see what people post up. Right now seems to be radio silence though... :(

Any time you lean the A/F ratio, temps increase. Not a big deal if you dont tow, or haul alot of weight. And the MAF calibrator only adjusts A/F ratio under WOT.
My low end seems fine. Like I said, off teh line, I can spin the tires with the boat hitched up, and a passenger on board. Taconut was witness to this, and couldnt belive it.......'course.....niether did I.
