Hello, finally narrowed down a pistol for the range and home defense. I can't seem to find the sig 226 with the night sights anywhere. I have a few stores that can get about 60 days but not sure I want to wait that long. A local dealer has one thats available later this week with a fiber optic sight for $10 more but I have no experience with one. Any one have any experience with fiber optic sights on a sig or something similar.

Have you thought about getting a set of Trijicon, or Meprolights installed instead?

Is there anything you don't know:D? I will be goggling soon. I have a decent amount of experience with shotguns from years of duck and pheasant hunting growing up but this is my first pistol. I was looking for a ready to go out of the box gun but if swapping the sights is possible for a fair price I am not against it.
    Thanks again!

Most shops install the sights free if you buy them from them. You might be able to work a deal for the gun+night sights+ install. Talk with the shop, and see what they can do. :)

I'm not sure if you have an Academy store near you. My local Academy just started stocking the 226 I bought from Cabela's about 6 months ago. It has the tritium night sights.

No cabelas or academy anywhere close to me. Have a bass pro but they don't stock the 226. Thanks for the tip!

I have a p226 with the Sig tritium night sights, about 1500 rounds through it in the last year. They are pretty good at dawn and dusk but I tend to have a problem with the contrast of the dot on the front post during the day. It affects me being able to quickly switch my focus to the front post. I am looking for other sights. The fiber optics is the option I am looking at for me. Depending on your use your mileage may vary....

One more thing with the Sig tritium...
Here is the site picture, notice you don't really see the post. This is an internet picture... this guy is going to be about a foot to the right at 10 yards.

Also, the correct site picture is the middle of the dot on the front post lines up with the middle of the dots on the rear site.
It is not: Top of the front post to the top of the notch
It is not: Top of the front dot to the top of the rear dots (they appear different sizes)

My duty weapon for the last 7 years has been the Sig 226. Thousands of rounds through it. Mine has the tritium sights standard. They work pretty wellin lowlight situations. I have NO issues with mine. If you do get the Sig, makesure you get it with the rail. I have a Streamlight TLR-1 on mine; it takesover from the low light situation to the no light situation. Also my sights aredifferent from the pic the OP posted. Check out what the gun shop has to offerfor aftermarket sights or use the sights as a bargaining point.

Good luck with the purchase, it's a solid weapon.

The half life of tritium is a little over 12 years.

Am I doing something wrong then? Because I always line up the top post with the rear?

I'm getting Truglo TFO's installed on my XD. Getting my slide back tomorrow. I can't comment on them yet as I don't have them. They are both fiber optic for brighter sights during the day and tritium for low light.
