"Need some boat ramp advice"

My 06 2.7 I-4 motor pulls my 3000 pound boat just fine. The problem is the stupid boat ramp. I either burn out on the open diff or slowly let out on first gear of the 5-speed and burn some clutch. The tires and rims that came with the truck are bigger and wider than the stock rims that did come with the truck. I feel stuck. I am not sure to buy some smaller tires and put the stock rims back on and spend about $600.00 or buy a ARB locker. Any feedback would be helpful.

 

hmm... have you tried putting weight in the bed of your truck or airing down?

Here's where the manual kind of hurts you, with an auto, you can apply a bit of brake as you apply gas and that acts like a "poor mans LSD". I would guess that you could try that with the manual, but chances are you'd already be spinning by the time you moved your foot from the clutch to the brake. If you can work two pedals with one foot, this might be something to try.

 

I will try to air down the tires this weekend and see how that goes. Wish me luck

 

grab a couple sand bags and throw them in the bed, or throw people back there when pulling out

 

You can do this with the ebrake since it's a pull handle on the manual transmissions.

I think you're gonna have to slip the clutch even though it sucks to since you don't have the low end torque that the v6's have. Or buy a 4x4.

I went to a ramp and just practiced(with out the boat) working with the e-brake, seems I needed it. My first couple of trys I was humbled. My fourth pull from the ramp I had learned right where I need to have things. I also got a heavy rubber chalk with a chain on it. If the truck wants to roll back at all it wont. The chain is to pull it out after I have cleared the momentum barrier. Last weekend I stayed home because of the cold conditions. This weekend there might be rain. Thank you all for the advice.

I use my ebrake on boat ramps so that I don't roll back when starting off and have to slip the clutch a lot.

 

Anyone notice this in the bst or is it just me?
