Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
only difference in the 12 from the 09-11 is the front end styling. difference in the 09-12 vs the 05-08 is they added the camera, sat antenna, side curtain airbags, and auto LSD...then changed the LED tails, center of the front grille to grey instead of black, and smoked headlights on the TRD/xrunner. that's a rough list that just popped in my head. there may be things i'm over looking.

Also, the 2012 has new audio with white display instead of orange, with the option for a touch screen display with Entune and Nav. Bigger video display in the rear view mirror for the backup camera. Trailer sway control if you get the towing package. New steering wheel, same as 5 Gen. 4Runner. Blinker lights in exterior rear view mirrors if you get the TRD sport package.

    Typically:

    1. If you push the Sat button and nothing happens, you do not have a Satellite radio tuner at all.

    2. If you push the Sat button and you get some funny alpha-numeric code on the screen, you have a satellite tuner installed, but it is not activated. The code you saw is the serial number of the tuner, and you need this when activating your satellite radio account.

    3. If you push the Sat button and you get music, you of course have the tuner and it is either on trial activation from the dealer or still activated from the previous owner.

Is "improvements" really the correct word? An improvement to me would be heated side mirrors, more horsepower, better fuel efficiency, etc.

Dude, The price improved too......besides, what do you care, you'll butcher it up as soon as you get it home, right ? Or drive thru the first mud puddle to christen it, right ?

whipper, I am surprised. You made an excellent comment. Makes total sense, power is fine. Its excellent, better MPG would be the way to go.

And there's always the SC if one wants more power. Probably costs about the same if there was a bigger engine option.

Oh - just remembered - SC isn't 2012 certified yet - probably coming soon though.

Technically, I described what is already available in the FJ and 4Runner although I wish the fuel efficiency was a little better.

Wouldn't a SC improve the fuel mileage of the truck? I mean respectably, if the driver doesn't stomp on the gas like there's a spider on the pedal. The lower PSI coming into the engine would be forced into it instead of the vacuum that it creates so the pistons don't have to work when they are pulling down to bring air into the chamber. Idk if i'm right or not??

Also for 2012 there's the option for a heavy duty vinyl floor instead of carpet. I think it's only available in the TRD Off Roads. I love mine! Makes cleaning up the dirt and dog hair a breeze.
