Does it really find many "extra" deductions that a seasoned tax preparer couldn't find using long-hand?

I've used it over the last 8 years, and it's easy. Finding extra deductions? Not sure, but it does cost less than a tax preparer and I have yet to be audited (knock on wood).

Not sure about finding any "extra" deductions, but it makes doing taxes super easy. I've been using it for at least 7 years now.

Fed is usually free and then they charge you for state and then a processing fee.

I used turbota for the last 2 years. They charged me like 30-40. Then this year, I started my return with them, didn't pay, then saw what my return was. $1497. Then I did the free HR block, same return, $1497. HR block was free, turbotax was i think $40. And yes i had deductions, a few 1099's, 2 W2's.

Since you're only 21, it probably won't find a lot of deductions for you unless you own a house or have investments, but it's still easy to use and can get a quick refund.

As for comparing it to a person, just depends on the how thorough and knowledgable the person is.

I did both and liked HRBlock more. Easier and received a few more dollars.

I use H&R block online. Free and easy. Only time it costs money for fed return is if you have stuff like capital gains from investments and stuff like that. I used to be an accountant(albeit not public) and I still use this rather than manually doing my return.

Now if you need to see an actual tax preparer I'd never go into an H&R block place I'd stick with an actual CPA for that.

i've used it for the past 5 years... my returns are pretty simple, so i'm not too worried about it finding all these crazy deductions or anything, just like it because it only costs like $20 and i can e-file and all that good stuff. just submitted my taxes with turbotax last night actually...

Turbo Tax will actually let you do a step by step to explore all deductions if you want. This is tedious, but if you know what you are looking for it's rather quick.

I plan on doing mine this weekend.

I've been using it for the last 10 years. I've never been audited.

I have been itemizing for the last 4 years since I bought my house and used it for my sole proprietorship business for the last 2 years. It's very easy to use. I can't speak to more money back because I have nothing to compare it to, I've been using Turbotax since I turned 16 and started working.

I did my taxes about a month ago and have had my refunds for a few weeks.

You won't find "extra" deductions when using a legitimate CPA. They just know what you are eligible for.

Turbotax will guide you through that process.

    I think it's worth it.

Good to hear. I just bought a house in Novermber and have money set aside for my 10% penalty for dipping into my retirement money to buy the house. I think as long as I plug in everything with the tax documents I have received, I should be good to go.

Frak no - TT is too expensive, IMO. You can find cheaper versions that perform just as well. I use Tax Act online. Easily half price for me or better, as I have to file multiple states. States are the killer. You can use TA for free and not pay until the end when you want to print/file.

Maybe I need to check that H&B Block free!

I have used Turbotax since it came out.

I used to do my taxes by hand at the kitchen table years ago.

With 3 kids in school and and all of them working part time plus all my tax
    schedules and such,
I sure learned a lot and spent a lot of nights doing taxes with
all the forms and instruction booklets from the IRS
and of course a calculator and lots of scratch paper.

    Turbotax was a huge relief.

If you plan to purchase it buy the Amazon download.

It is by far cheaper than in stores and no sales tax and no shipping
    (if you qualify).

I have been using Turbo Tax from a long time now, like 5/6 years maybe, it has always made my tax filling easy and convenient. Although I prefer buying the software rather than going for the free online one as I always have insecurities about the free one being infected with malicious data or that it has any hidden costs or if it can be a data collection stunt online, but yes to save some money I do use those online available turbotax coupon while buying which does makes a difference.
