Flat spots and tire size question...

i just recently bought my taco 4x4 dbl cab last month. ever since i have had it i have gotten a vibe like the wheels are outta balance when i get around the 55 and over mark. i took it to the dealer and had them check it out to make sure it wasnt the diff bearing or something was loose. they claim the wheels may have flat spot in them, and said it probably from where the truck set on the lot.

if it is a flatspot or spots on the tires, will they work them selves out or am i looking at new tires? i havent had balanced yet cause i dont wanna waste money if its not a balancing issue.

the other question is, i wanna get the TRD Bronze alloys and they are 16x7.5. i have some firestones MTs on my KMC wheels that are16x8 and the tire size is 275/75/16 and i was wanting to know would they fit on the 16x7.5s?

Whatever the problem may be, the dealer better fix it if it's a brand new truck.

 

the truck has 34,000 miles on it. i got it toyota certified. and its still under the factory warranty. i think the dealer is blowing smoke

 

They better fix it if it's still under warranty. Did you try balancing them?

 

If it is certified you should hassle the dealer to do whatever they can to fix the vibe, wether its the tires, wheels, whatever.

Years ago I had a car with Kumho tires and they would flat spot after sitting for a couple days. After 5-10 minutes of driving the vibe would go away when the tires warmed up.

 

Had the same problem with a set of continentals my car. After sitting it would flat spot and then driving would make it go away.

If you want to pinpoint if it is one bad tire or all of them. I would try the spare and swap out one of the fronts. Also rotating the front to rear will make any noticeable defect less noticeable when on the rear of the vehicle.

I would still think if the problem is occuring at high speed it is a driveline part out of balance or the tire/wheel combo being out of balance.

Did the dealer try to balance them even? Might be worth it to pay $50-60 and get them balanced to take it off the table as a problem. Toyota will likely tell you to pound salt since they suck for repair and blame everything they can on the customer or state it is a wear item. My guess is they are going to state a wear item in this case and charge you.

 

That's weird how you guys are getting flat spots. I had my truck parked for 6 months when I got a DUI and had no flat spots.

 

yeah they said they would not cover balancing of the wheels i have to... they only after i balance and its there they will take further action to fix it or figure it out.

does any one know if those tires will fit a 16x7.5?

 

^ I'm not 100% sure, but I think they would fit. I'm pretty sure i've seen other people on here with those wheels running 265's.

BTW, I think you should stick with the KMC's

 

i like my KMCs but the slat has eaten the chrome off the caps in spots and looks like shit now, not to mention theres so much to clean. i spent 4 days cleaning one wheel a day to make them look brand new again and came to the conclusion i want a wheel with less busy shit going on. they are nice. heres a pics of the wheels when i had them on my tundra

 

I had TSL Super Swamper SX. They are a bias-ply, non steel belted tire. They got flat spots every day while sitting over night. They still make them and they still do this, as do many non steel belted tires.

 

Oh, I was thinking you had Enduro's for some reason. Yeah, that wheel does have to much crap goin on!

 

i have herd of old split rim tires doing that my gpa was always complaining about it but it should go away after driving for a couple of miles
his truck sat for 8 years and i drove it around the block and i knew what he was talking about
i dont know how long it takes to get the flat spots tho

 

well i have been driving the crap out of them to try and get it to go away. no prevail. not sure a balancing will help

 

About 250 miles later theres still a vib. I dont understand how i can have a flat spot in a tire. Neither do i get how to get a flat spot out.

 

You say it only vibs at 55+, that sounds like a balancing issue. I imagine you would feel a flat spot at any speed. Get them road force balanced and if that doesn't take care of it, have the dealer fix it.

Flat spots wear themselves out ofter so many miles.

 

Tires can flat spot from sitting, but it should work itself out in a few miles. If the truck has acted that way from the time you bought it, take it back to the dealer and make them correct the issue. Probably just needs a good balancing.

 

Well im gettin them balanced. If that doesnt fix it and say wheels do have a flat spot in them, am i going to have to replace the tires or will the factory warranty cover that? Sorry if thats a stupid question.

 

If they still vibrate, it would seem to me that the dealer should be responsible for the repair/replacement.

 

Alright well we will find out soon. Im having them balanced while they put the tsb 4 leafs on my truck. Wish me luck lol!
