Cracked bed...

So somehow the back portion of my bed has a pretty large crack in it…

I'll post a picture up here sometime soon, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to fix this, preferably without spending too much money.

Depending on magnitude of the crack, some industrial strength adhesive & sealer should work to hold it together

You're the first person I've heard of this happening to, you drop something super heavy on?

It's fiberglass, so why not some epoxy? Then touchup with some semigloss black.

 

Maybe contact Toyota about it? Couldn't hurt, unless it is from something you did and not normal wear and tear.

 

The bed is not fiberglass, it's a composite plastic

I bought it used. The guy I bought it from had a ladder rack right where the crack was so I didn't notice it until I brought her home. So I have no idea how it happened

And it is in the actual bed itself, where the bed meets the cab.

 

The sides and bottom are all one piece, are they not?

 

How big is large? Wondering if it will just hold out if it's not too big or not too wide? Perhaps a professional spray on bedliner might help fill in the gap. That stuff bonds to the surface.

 

Use a dremel and bevel the crack, drill the ends, fill with two part epoxy, let dry and sand flush.

If you want some real good shit find a body shop with a 3M duramix gun and have them fill it with 08223 3M duramix adhesive

05 has composite plastic bed, not steel=no bedliner.

Max has the right idea. I would go a step further: Remove the bed, if you can't access the crack on the bottom of the bed. Bevel the bottom of the crack, use a heavy fiberglass mesh, and bed it into the epoxy on the bottom, cure, topcoat the mesh with more epoxy.

Make sure that everywhere there is epoxy is roughed up, or the it won't stick. Use plastic weld epoxy and test it on a small, unseen spot. Check it for adhesion. A 1" strip of fiberglass mesh should be wide enough.

If all you did was the top of the crack, it would flex and quickly break.
