For those of you who have experience in this area... What kind of prep work is needed before painting the actual relector bowl? Also what is the best type of paint to use?

I was thinking krylon fusion but dont know if that will hold up to the heat. Any imput would be great!!

Also how many coats, and time to wait after pre burn to seal the lights back up and install? Thanks!

i think a few coats of krylon fusion will do it

however i have been waiting for someone to use the "nighshades" spray tint on the bowl, i think it will look BAD ASS

Ya, I bet it would! curious how even it would come out... I have had good luck with using the krylon on my badges, but like above not sure how it will hold up to heat.

haha prolly not sorry! I have been playing around with the krylon fusion... the satin is almost a gloss finish, and the flat is really flat.

Really too bad they only make the semi-flat in the normal kind, going to try putting a coat of that on top of the flat and see what happens!

I tried the Dupli color that turns your smoke chrome to smoked chrome and decided I wanted it black after all. I did do my turn signals, parking lights and shrouds with the smoked chrome and love it.

This is before I decided to just do flat black.

The problem with the night shades and chrome is that you will get what looks like a lot of little spots. It does not come out nice and smooth like you see on the picture of the can. From far away it looks ok, kinda like a light shade of black but up close you can all the spots. Once you see all the spots you'll want to spray more coats and eventually it will look black which at that point you'll just want to paint the damn thing gloss black because that is what it looks like. No point in using Night Shades at twice the cost when you can just buy a can of Krylon Fusion Gloss for $5.

Anyways, don't let me discourage you....maybe you'll have better results but my expectations were something like the picture on the can.
