Doug i just started checkin out your build! I really dig your style man! Keepin everything raw and different thats how i like it too!Oh yeah and the budget cheaper, smarter more inginuity YES YES YES! Brilliant idea bout the tundra extra dampening to comp for the preload, brilliant. You know you mentioned how you doubt the spring mod would take off and i realized not everyone is A; living on a budget B has the basic skills to do it, and C;thinks doing stuff outside the box as you put it is cool. Me, im alot like you as far this stuff goes, all my enduro buddys nicked me rlt for road less traveled. Most folks just think im hill billy, jerry riggin....blah blah whatever. But its about function not only here but in all aspects of life for me. Your mutilated bumper mod kicks ass dude! extra clearence good lookin and another "custom" different doodad.
As far as the shock goes , you are right thats exectly what i want.BUT i would have to sacrifice compression by way of bigger bumpstops cause the billy 10 inch travels are almost 16 compressed that doesnt work in my config here. That would only give me the orig 3 inches up i had. I want 5 up and five down (Partly why i opted to build leafs so i could get the lift i wanted dialed and not have to hoope i got what i paid for.)so im lookin at different shocks out there to see if one is 15 collapsed and 25 extended. Since i sit at 20.5. Now that being said i noticed something in my jy searches for goodies. 90s blazers has a 4- 6 inch bumpstop that is air filled and looks very much like the saught after timbren(retails for 170 or so) So tomorrow im go see if i can pull em off and attach to accomadate this longer shock and see if i can get away with the 10 travel billys without movin stock mounts.!!!I still gotta lot of pgs to go on your build!!!!! badass!

The long ones are 48" and they are the ones that are going to replace the 2nd leaf, the shorter ones are 38: and idk if ill use them cause the AAL has an offset centering pin.

The clamps are to hold the bike intertube as the glue dries.

Not yet, I just took that pic. I hope to get to them next weekend, maybe this week but not very likely.

I'll snap pics as i go.

I measured: and the "new" springs are 7/16' thick compared to the stock ones that are 1/4" thick!

So I'm thinking just using the one leaf for now.

Damn those are monsters Sean..:D but wow what a beautiful ,evenly proportioned ARC, The AAL is offset huh? Your stock springs should be front to center/rear to center (but it wouldn;t be the first 2nd gen I've seen with the same spring config ) I mean 1st gens & 2nd gens are the same length , its just the 1st gens are centerpin/offset as you know.

I dont recall if you had the TSB springs, in any event I agree with ya, I think one of those springs combined with what you have will def. firm shit up !!:eek: Hmmm, maybe even dump everything but the main, next leaf say 7" from hanger eyelett to tip & 7" from rear shackle to tip, maybe the next leaf down go 5" & 5" that'd be a 3 leaf pack or drop the TSB go with main & secondary (if sound) & 2 donors ? ..:notsure::D thats the beauty of it , theres a million ways to config. basically you are "tuning your suspension" But you do carry a fair amount of weight & you tow pretty often too if i recall. its going to change the way you feel about your truck when driving for sure, it'll be so much more responsive in handling& it'll feel very nimble too.;)

I have factory (non-tsb) with a 3-leaf AAL. If i have time tomorrow I will add the big spring to replace the second leaf. And test it as i drive to go sking on sunday.

Ya second gens aren't offset, but the wheeler's AAL is, only reason to keep the top leaf of the aal is to keep the brackets that keep the leafs from turning sideways.

But ya, it'll be fun to adjust and play around to get the perfect ride.

Just drove it around the block and roads are snowy so can't take corners at any speed to see if it leans really bad or not. when it clears up a little I'll let you all know.

Ya just one full length spring for now, might add a short one later, but idk yet.

Actually my leafs had fine arc when off the truck. but ya they look much better now (not flat).

IU'm in Colorado right now, cold as shit right now, thank god for heaters!

I'll get pics when the sun comes out:cool:.

Also ive been drivin and testin more and more, it pleases me soo deeply how well it performs. It rides just the way I imagined it would when i bought the truck. Of course to my suprise all that trd and stock bilsteins meant absolutely nada since the springs were pure crap. The interesting part to this is the fact that I only have 1 rear shock rite now, yeah thats rite, my pass rear is broken:eek:. So I CANT wait till i have not only the correct length shocks on there but 2 working shocks:eek:. It is really gonna ride nice then.!!

For those of us who are doing this and ending up with 3" or more of lift I thought i'd post these specs. Since alot of the shocks out there are to accomadate 1-2" lifts and not ideal. This has specs of extended and collapsed lengths.

also all pro carries an 9.5 travel version that is not in that link.

I just looked at my old pics that was with stock tires and right after my lift, from the fender to the ground(goin through the center of the wheel) it was at 37 1/4" and now I'm sitting at 39" with tires that are 1.5" bigger in radius. So that means this one leaf has gotten me back to my original lifted height. I'm probably gonna try a short leaf to replace one of the AALs in my pack. (this will have to be the end of next week). I'll keep u all updated on my spring "build".

I wanted my full lift height back and I'm really close to that now, so I'm happy, for now.
