piaa off road hook up

Just finished hooling up my piaa 520's and ran the switch power straight to the battery, is there going to be any problems that might accur, or should i just run the two switch wires to the fuse box. thanks in advance.

 

You shouldnt have any problems. did you wire it according to the PIAA diagram that came with the lights?

 

ya, it's correct but wired the switch light to the battery instead of fuse box so i can run them if the truck is off, not that i am going to but you never know. Thanks Knight.

 

on the switch light going to the battery, you may wanna put an inline fuse link in there, right before the battery..........................the fuse will pop before the lights do, and use a 15 amp fuse.

 

"switch Light" as in the little white wire with the red dash marks (PIAA wiring harness only)? If thats the one you hooked to the battery along with the regular larger gauge positive wire you should still be ok, but you should piggy back it off your parking lights.

 

To add if they are the 520 Ion crystal fogs they should be piggy-backed off the parking lights. If they are the 520 Driving lights the switch wire (white-red) should be piggy-backed off the high-beams.

 

ya it is the white wire with the red marks on it, i have two sets of the 520 smr, one is extreme white and the other is yellow, i will go to radio shack in a couple of days and buy an inline fuse just to be safe. if i was going to put it in the fuse box which fuse whould i put it in to, i want to be able to turn those lights on without turning the running lights on or headlights.

 

Not sure about running it to the fuse box but If you want them on with no other light definitely put the fuse in there like tacomaman06 said.

Personally I wouldnt piggy back off the highs, I like to be able to use my lights whenever i want. not just when my highs are on

 

my 510 fogs a switched to the parking lights so the work when ever i want with the parking lights on, the 520 SMR's are switched to the highs because there is no situation I would ever use them not as high beam lights, there just too bright. So in the end the High beam output with the 520 SMR's is like looking at the sun from 20 feet away.

 

Hahah nice! I just like the option to turn them on as I please. When it snows around here Ill point my middle 2 lights down so they are shining about 15-20 feet in front of me, that plus my hid's lights up the snowy roads pretty well.
