My First Taco

Just got her last weekend....took my 07 Accord in for service and left with this....it was exactly the one I was looking for. I tell ya, I dont know if its the color or just that these trucks are awesome, but it definitely turns heads.....even guys in big F250's and stuff be eyeballin' it. Couldnt be happier with it and glad I found a great forum cuz I haz a ton of questions. Here's a pic of her right after I got home, only posted one cuz Im sure everyone has seen one.

Nice truck man!! Congrats!! I'm like you, just got mine in December and loving it!!!!

 

Now I'm thinking of giving it a 1.5 overall lift and going with 265 70 r17 for tires. That would be enough for what I do. I was thinking of putting the 5100 bilsteins on all 4 corners but i'm not sure witch way to go yet.

 

All this 4x4 tech is new to me, I'm very mechanically inclined, just not in this dept. I have no idea where to even begin, but I guess some step rails are a good start, cuz I'm not very tall and I hate getting out and smushing down the left side of the seat.....I'm verrrryyy anal about my vehicles. The most mud this thing will ever see is my parents driveway....which nearly requires a 4x4 anyway.

 

I hear ya!! but this Tacoma thing is very addicting and I saw some really nice looking trucks on this forum. I had a lot of fun last snow storm here but I really need to upgrade the tires man!!

That is exactly the truck I want to trade mine in for except I am afraid I will miss the off road package on my 2007.....It just looks so clean (no chrome). Congrats on the truck man and you're right something about that color is just amazing I don't know what it is but it was the only color I really even considered when buying one the first time (its not that the other colors are bad its just this color is great). Also the 5100s are nice and a lot of people including myself started their but you can really improve the ride quality and off road capability of your truck by investing a bit more if you have the cash. (I would go with bilstein 5150s or 60s in the rear and a set of front oem replacement coil overs or some bilsteins in the front as well.

I prolly will do little off-roading, it'll spend most of its time in the garage. I def love the Sport with the color matched grille and bumpers.

Got my windows tinted today also...the first owner put 45% on the front windows...why he wasted his money, idk, but I had 18% put on today to match the back....I felt like I was in a fishbowl before

Could you guys make some recommendations on lift kits, I think I just want a 3" lift but I dont want something cheap and shitty, but also dont want to break the bank. I found some good articles on here about the types of lifts and read them, which helped me a lot just dont really know what brands to look at? What is the most common lift and type of kit used? I keep hearing something about Bilstein 5100's also....is this like teh must have shock if your going to lift? I dont mind a small compromise in ride quality, just nothing extreme. Thanks in advance for the advice guys!

I made a search on lifts not long ago and found an interesting post on TACOMA HQ website (suspension). This guy explains all the types of lift you can get and their pros and cons. I'm still debating myself on what kind of lift I want. The bilsteins 5100 are sold as a levelling shock and are adjustable in the front only. I understand they are an upgrade for the stock bilsteins on your truck. I'm like you I don't want to put crap under my truck and regret it later.

 

Thanks man, looks like you've got a pretty sweet ride yourself!! How do you like those step rails? I love the look of them, but are they as functional as a normal rail. Im just not sure about having to step in one certain place to get in and out of the truck.....I'd be concerned I'd miss it and bust my ass

 

As far as three inch lifts go the 5100's will not get you that much lift typically only about an inch and a half without big compromises in ride quality. Like I mentioned before if you want the best 1-3 inch lift you should go with a set of aftermarket oem replacement coil overs and shocks (mad by brands like king, fox, sway-away, or icon) coupled with a lift leaf pack or add a leaf in the rear (together this should cost around 2-3grand). If you want something cheaper the next best options are getting like a toytec ultimate lift kit or something similar with front coil overs and rear bilsteins (cost a total of about 1grand). Or your cheapest option but definitely a compromise over the other two would be a OME (old man emu) lift kit for about $750.

 

Thanks! I love 'em. I will admit after looking at a lot of step rails this one "looked" the best to me so that's why I got 'em. As far as functionality, I don't really use them myself personally but my wife and little rugrat use them and are happy they're there now
