First thing I would do would be to call toyota corporate and see if your truck qualifies. Ive read there may be an extension until march 31st. If toyota doesnt cover it and youre worried about moving up north you may just want to spray it yourself with some rust inhibitor to save money. Look around online for pictures of where the perforations are worst and spply extra in those places.

how bad is your frame since youre in Florida?

Here what I've found so far from only one independent engineer:

The frame of the tacoma was fabricated with insufficient corrosion protection, particularly inside the boxed section of frame under the midsection of the truck. The frame is literally rusting from the inside out. What happens is, as the frame rusts on the inside of the boxed section, the rust flakes drop onto the bottom of the boxed section. These rust flakes then plug the weep holes in the frame so that moisture is not allowed to drain out the interior of the boxed section, thereby exacerbating the potential for corrosion. So what is happening is the bottom of the boxed section of frame is rusting out due to the build up of moisture and the accumulation of rust flakes plugging of the weep holes. The rust flakes are 1/8 deep on the bottom of boxed section of frame. Basically the bottom 20% of tacoma frames are rusting out!! What is particularly dangerous about the bottom of the boxed section of frame becoming compromised by corrosion, is the bottom of the boxed section is where the bracket for the leaf spring is attached. As the boxed section corrodes, there is less and less material supporting this major suspension bracket. The design of this bracket must be analyzed by other engineers. I strongly beleive that it doesn't take much frame corrosion to severely compromise the integrity of this welded leaf spring bracket. The most dangerous part is that if this backet fails, then the front of the leaf spring comes free, the rear axle comes out of alignment, which could cause the operator to lose control. This is a MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE! I also can't but help wonder that since the frame is an intergal part of the vechicle's safety system, what does a severly corroded and weakened frame do to the level of crash protection offered by the vehicle's.

I strongly suggest that owners of tacoma's get inspected, and if Toyota refuses to do anything about it. Class Action!!!

So as far as this spray they are putting on and have put on it doesn't work. These frames are rusting from the inside out. The frame could look fine on the outside but could be as paper thin as an egg shell. So if anyone out there got their frames sprayed you now have a gooie egg shell frame and not just an egg shell. Class Action!!!

Where did you see this extension?? Post it!!

DO NOT SPRAY YOUR TRUCK WITH ANY THING TOYOTA WILL CLAIM THAT IT WILL MAKE THE WARRARTY NULL AND VOID. AGAIN DO NOT SPRAY!!! Take it to toyota and have them fix it. Your frame is rusting from the inside out and if they want to spray it will do nothing but make your egg shell frame gooie. This spray is like putting a bandaid on a bullet wound. Will not work but will look good from the outside, but your frame will still rust from the inside out.

THESE FRAMES THEMSELVES WHERE NOT CONSTRUCTED FROM THE CORRECT QUALITY OF STEEL FOR THIS TYPE OF SERVICE. TOYOTA KNOWS THIS THEY GOT A SETTEMENT FROM DANA FOR 25 MILLION AND IT STATES THIS IN THE COURT DOC.

Where do you come up with this bullshit? My Toyota dealer told me to coat my frame because they don't do it in Iowa. They want you to take care of it so they don't have to. You clearly don't know much about this frame warranty. It's not a recall. Toyota did not need to do this. Sue them, you will lose. They have covered all of the bases on this one, now it's time to realize you screwed up and sell the truck or get some frame plates welded on and be done with it.

One of the places I read about the frame inspection extension was from your other thread I linked in an earlier post. There is also some talk about it over at edmunds and a few other Internet boards. I don't now about it from personal expirience, just what I've read on the Internet.

And what warranty are you worried about voiding?

I'm just getting started on this Safety Issue Toyota has on their hands. I am and many others are far from being done with this Safety Issue. And Yes Toyota had to do something about this before someone got hurt or god for bid someone die. Toyota started to do something about it and now are not in some cases.

ISu I'm sorry but your frame and all TACOMA'S frames are rusting out from the inside out, so that spray you sprayed is doing NOTHING. Time will tell I jost hope that everyone out there is taking their tacoma's in for inspection.

Your frames are rusting from the inside out and Toyota Knows this, and Now you do sir:smack:

Lol I knew this. I've already had one truck bought back. And I still bought another with the same bad factory frame. Mine has ZERO rust on it. Mainly because I sprayed it. If you use a ziebart style pressured hose you can spray the inside of the rails. It's not hard and I use oil based chain lube so it repels water. Doesn't last forever like undercoat, but way better. Mine has been inspected the last 3 years, and the tech literally said this: "Your truck frame has paint on parts that I didn't even know were painted". It's immaculate. Because I used protection. Rust is like herpes. It never goes away once you get it, but some protection can keep you from getting it.

I have looked at the frame from my 2003 Tacoma and it is COMPLETELY FINE. There is NOTHING WRONG with it. It is not a SAFETY ISSUE. I WILL NOT be filing a "class action" lawsuit. I am COMPLETELY HAPPY with Toyota and their vehicles. I hope that you can UNDERSTAND THIS. I hope I used CAPS LOCK enough for you too figure out the KEY PARTS of my response.

I'm sorry OP ... what's your stake in this?

You said it was your friend's truck. But we have no details at all. What year is it? Is the frame actually perforated? Had a mechanic of any kind verified that it is rusted through? And is it's VIN even covered? Remember that only Tacomas sold in certain states are included in the buy back / replacement program. If, for example, a Tacoma was originally sold in CA but 5 years later ended up in OH, that doesn't mean it's covered.

You just seem to be REALLY pissed and I'm wondering what's up. Is this a matter of principle to you? Or did your friend get ripped off (buy a bad truck and not know it)? Did the frame fail and he get hurt or killed? What's your skin in the game here? Something's not adding up.

Truck did qualify, it was inspected by toyota(failed), But to set the record straight. The letter Toyota sent to there dealers and to owners states that ALL Tacoma's and ALL States are and could be experiencing this safety issue. Again they got a settlement from Dana Corp. for 25 Million Dollars For these frames that where installed on these tacoma's. Toyota's own investagators found out about this and sued Dana. They knew this and started a program (CSP) to get these frames off the road. Toyota is now founding that this is costing to much, and have bit off more than they could chew. Toyota is now not helping and I say that is not right. OH YA I FORGOT THESE TACOMAS CAN SNAP IN HALF!! I'm not laughing but TOYOTA IS and that's not right, and they will not get away with it.

Yeah I know about the lawsuit. And the buyback. I was under the assumption it was limited only to certain states of origination. Maybe initial letters only went out to those states. Whatever the case...

So what's the history of your friend's truck? When did he buy it? What year is it?
