    Just the basics
This thread is badass and has helped me understand what the bells and whistles do with my 09 TRD OR.

Anyone who had crappy things to say about this thread are jackholes and ignoramous giganticus'.

Well just to throw my .02 into this, David K, sometimes makes me laugh at how much of a defender of the A-Trac he is, but this thread itself I found very helpful when I got my truck, because I didn't understand how everything worked by just reading the manual. So I vote to sticky it and lock it down, Pm's can be sent by new members to David K, if they need help or more info than what is in this thread.

My SR5 here in Canada came with ATRAC. Is this the same as A-TRAC?

ATRAC, A-TRAC, atrac are the same and it means 'Active Traction Control'. Available ONLY on 2009 or newer 4WD OFF ROAD TRD Tacomas... which are also SR5s... at least up to 2010.

    Do you have this button?:

No I don't have the button. All of the Canadian 4X4 come with a-trac but but you don't push a button to engage it. Apparently it comes on automatically when your in 4LO.

Here is a link to the Canadian specs. It's on page 15.
    http://media.toyota.ca/pr/tci/en/toyota/document/09tacoma_specs_e.pdf?ncid=13018

Oh .... and I was wrong ... they call it A-TRAC in Canada. OOPS!

Then why is it on the brochure and it was on the sticker in the window when I purchased it. Anyway ... I had a look around and it seems that people with the OR Tacomas have a hard time believing that all Canadian 4x4 Tacomas have A-TRAC. LOL I think that I'll trust Toyota. I'll test it out myself.

I had only noticed that it's sometimes referred to as ATRAC and sometimes A-TRAC. I was just wondering I there was a difference.

That link shows only 2WD models, no page 15 either.

Anyway, as Whipper correctly stated... The Off Road TRD is already an SR-5... the TRD package is added hardwear beyond what the SR-5 only truck has. In the case of the Off Road 4x4: Locking Rear Differential, Hydraulic Brake Booster and A-TRAC.

'TRAC' is not A-TRAC... All new Tacomas (and all Toyotas) have TRAC (limited slip system)... only the 4WD OFF ROAD TRD has A-TRAC (in the Tacomas).

A-TRAC has been available on certain models of Toyotas and Lexus SUVs for many years... It is a proven system that makes the Toyotas with it go even further or more confidently off road than ever, without after market modifications and expense.

I am NOT putting down any of the modified Tacomas because I talk about A-TRAC so positively... just informing what A-TRAC is compared to the previous or current trucks without it. I have had two other Tacoma 4x4s with a combined mileage of 238,000 in 9 years to compare to my 2010 Tacoma.
