    Hello all,

I sold my 2008 Audi A4 last Saturday and picked up a 2012 DCSB TRD Offroad with Entune in Pyrite Mica. I didn't want the Entune, but the only Pyrite Offroad without Entune was gonna be marked up $1000 for "transportation" costs, even though it was only a state away. They didn't want to deal, so I got the Entune system, and the whole truck was a couple hundred above invoice, thanks to USAA.

This is gonna be my daily driver for the winter and when I need to transport stuff, I have a 2008 Suzuki GSXR600 for the summer days :D

So far I am loving the truck, the only thing I don't understand is the gas mileage. I drove a lifted 2nd gen tacoma for a couple weeks, and I was lucky to get 240 miles to a tank. I attributed that to the lift. However, I am about to fill the tank for the second time, and I am going to be lucky to get even that with a stock truck. Is this normal until break-in is complete? I have literally gone above 2k rpm maybe 4 times since I got it.

EDIT: I don't know if my pics are showing up, because they aren't for me. I'll work on it.

EDIT #2: Still can't embed, I'll link the pics though

Strangely it does get a little better. I'm still not jumping like they did in the commercials but the experiment continues. Make sure your tire pressures are up. Welcome.[IMG]

    How are your driving habits?

Most are lucky to get 300 on a tank. Some blame it on winter blend gas.

If you keep your rpms under 2 you will see improvement.

My initial mileage was 16-17. Took about 3k miles and now it's up to 20. Combo of breaking in plus the tranny learning the shift points I guess.

I get around 18 mpg, about 300 miles between fill-ups on my DC OR- unless I put it on 4WD, then it cuts my mileage by nearly half. The manual says it has a 20-gallon tank, but I've driven with the fuel light on for 50ish miles, it ought to have been about to sputter to a stop and I still only got 17 gallons into it before the gas nozzle clicked off. Just out of curiosity I topped it off once to where I could see the tank was full and got about 19 gallons.

Anyway, welcome to TW and yay for Pyrite Mica! Love that color, still kinda think I should have gotten a pyrite rather than black, but... meh. Still love my truck.

My driving habits since pickup up the truck have been very conservative, i take it really slow and easy. Tires looked a bit underinflated, but i checked them and they were right at 35 psi. I'm gonna try 93 octane and see if that nets any better results, but I'm not holding my breath.

Forgot to ask, first service is scheduled for 5k miles, when i had my Audi people recommended switching the oil at 1k, is that needed for this truck? I looked at a few other threads, opinions seemed mixed. I might do it just out of piece of mind

When I read that the taco had a 21 gallon tank, I couldn't believe it either, as it seemed like it was pretty much dry when I filled it up and it maxed at 17.5.

And the Pyrite was my favorite available color, looks so good in real life. My Audi was black, and it looked fantastic, but I am done trying to take care of black paint with how OCD I am.

Hang in there man. You should get close to 20mpg in the summer....usually get about 2-3 mpg less in winter. Do you drive on the highway alot or city? That can make a difference as well

Congrats on the purchase from another pyrite mica buyer. Think it is the best looking color out there. Just be warned, this site will cost you a bunch of money.

I have no issue changing my oil every 5k miles, it might not hurt to do your first oil change early to get the break in junk out of the engine.

The first tank I did I barely got 300 because it was mostly highway, this second tank has been all city, but even for city it's pretty bad.

I think I'll probably do the 1k change, if not just to get familiar with the process on this new rig. I'll make sure to hit the oil drain plug though, and not the tranny plug...

Was wondering when this week's token mpg thread would be started...

    Really like the pyrite mica!

Yeah driving in the city sucks. On the other hand the highway driving is great fro me. I get at least 340 miles a tank. All stock except for TRD CAI and TRD cat-back exhaust.

Your tank should have about 3.5 gallons in it when the light comes on.

I changed my oil after the first thousand miles and replaced it with mobil 1 synthetic (I have a 2.7ltr and it requires sythetic from the factory). After that it gets changed every 5 thousand miles.

It will get better once your truck gets broken in. Its brand new, give it time. I have 33's and on my last fill up at the gas station got 16.3 mpg combined hwy/city on winter gas, Im hoping to be consistantly 17's in the summer.

I have also read that gas with Ethanol in it hurts our gas mileage. Problem is I can't find a station in my area that does not have 10% Ethanol in it.
