Limited Slip Rear Diff

Who's idea was it to sell ANY truck with an open differential? Generally there's no need for me to be in 4x4 during city driving in the winter. Then we get a couple inches of snow, and i'm the jackass with one tire spinning, trying to get out of the intersection and let people get to work on time.
I'm no lead foot, but even for safety reasons a limited slip should be mandatory on pretty much any truck. If you accelerate suddenly while at cruising speed, the spinning tire tends to pull the truck towards it's side, sending you into drift-mode. Yet there's nowhere near as much control compared to having both wheels spinning in sync where you can correct with throttle or steering... My last Toyota pickup had a limited slip, last winter I drove it practically every day, almost always in 2wd, with next to no traction issues.

What are my options here?

Does Toyota make an OEM limited slip differential for '05 Tacomas?

 

Try pulling the e-brake a bit as you are accelerating sometimes that slows the spin on the tire spinning and can send some traction to the non-spinning tire.
