I noticed this weekend that the light, "D", for being in the drive position has gone out. It's only the "D" so are there single bulbs for what gear you're in?

Should I live with it or take the time to change it out. My OCD wants to change it out, but I know it won't be an easy/quick job. I haven't taken the dash cluster out of my Tacoma, but have in my old Ranger.

Any threads on how to take everything out? I tried the search function but came up empty as I probably wasn't searching for the correct words.

    Thanks!

Look for threads related to changing the color of the LEDs. It's not a simple bulb change. You will have to desolder the old LED chip and solder in a new one.

    Yes.
Odd, mine didn't come on today either. I put it back in neutral then back in drive and it came on. Toyotas are weird about their interior lighting. Ha.

I've noticed that too, at times, but this time it hasn't come back on.

    Yes.
Other than my Tacoma, all of the Toyotas in the family have various lights out. Usually starts with the temperature controls. Slapping or flicking them works for those, probably not so much for the dash. :notsure:

I have had mine do this on occasion too and when I go back into neutral then back into drive it goes on.

You're going to need to find a 'D' shaped LED...

This must be it because it came back on while I was at lunch today. I guess getting some canned air down in there may be in the cards this weekend.

I wonder if the PRNDL switch is like that of a Honda. I had one of those apart on a civic once; it was mostly enclosed and the dielectric grease had been pushed off the contacts which allowed some corrosion to occur. I had to clean it up and apply fresh grease to get it working properly.

If it's similar, canned air won't do much.
