New member..truck acting up

I just replaced my spark plugs which I got from Toyota and everything went smooth. Now when the truck is in gear but at a stop it sits just above 500 rpm then everyone so often it with bog down to just below 500 for half a second and the truck will also shake, also started bucking a couple times around 45. Some buddies think is either a vacuum hose and don't think it's a spark plug issue. Its just funny it happened right after the spark plug change. I need help, any suggestions?

 

IDK, make sure all the plugs are snug (but not too tight), check for hoses yeah, possibly you might want to reset your ECU as well.

What engine?
What sparkplugs ?
What did you disconnect?
Do you have Scanguage, can you borrow if not and see if tps changes when this happens?
Vacum leak is most probably cause but badly installed sparkplug could be also a problem

 

Thanks Acdronin, this sight is great! What is an ECU btw? Also thank you blue T, the engine is a 4.0 liter V6, I checked the hoses I disconnected and they are good, the spark plugs are stock oem plugs for that truck... Not sure what the part number is. What's the tps? I can see if I can get one... Does any autoparts store have them?

 

ECU is the truck's computer, you reset it by disconnecting the battery for like a minute or so. I don't think this is the issue but I have had to do this in the past for other things.
Scangauge is a gizmo that plugs into your truck which mounts on your dash, it tells you all kinds of data about the truck. If the truck is still under warranty and you can't find anything else wrong i would take it back to them.

 

Almost sounds like an O2 sensor needs replacing. They tend to cause the problems you are describing.

 

when u change out a plug on the v6- drivers side, there is one that is hard to get to. so u either pull the vacumm hose or jam hard against it with the ratchet, so id have a good look at the hoses.

 

Vacuum leak is my guess too. Recheck the hoses. Did you gap the plugs or just put them in? They should be .040". I don't think a bad plug would cause idle swings like you describe. It would just run crappy.

 

I think there was another member the other day that had this same issue if I remember correctly and it was indeed the vacuum hose as mentioned.

Awesome thanks guys, I did gap the spark plugs to .040 also. So I will give it a good look at all the hoses.

 

Check every inch of what you just did. I am thinking loose connector on one of the coil packs or maybe a bad spark plug.

Sounds like you might be missing on one cylinder when this happens.

Same thing happened to me. Replaced sparkplugs with

$6 NGK LFR6C-11 V-Power Spark Plug, Pack of 1

NGK LFR6C-11 now it shudders at low idle and even has died on me a couple times. Vacuum lines look good. Doesn't throw a code. Re-did the plugs they were fine. Cleaned MAF. Dunno where to go next.

 

The last owner oiled the filter a few days before I bought the taco. It ran great until I changed spark plugs. I also ran a bottle of fuel injector cleaner through my tank, maybe it fouled up the AFR Sensor or O2s... I would think it would throw a code. It almost feels like a miss when it's idling at about 400 rpms, but get it over the 500 mark and it runs smooth.
I just cleaned my MAF this morning to see what would happen, nothing different.
