sub box question. hope someone can help

I am looking for a sub box that will fit behind the driver side rear seat or one that will fit on the passenger side of the DC.

The specs on a box would be great i think i can make my own that will fit without removing the factory bins and child restraint bracket. Im looking for about .55 cubic feet of space in the box, if this is not possible can someone help me out before i go wasting my time trying to build one. The box will be for the IDQ 10" sub it seems practical and possible on paper but i dont know about it for sure.

Any help or input would be good, i can seem to find anyone who has been able to do this without removing the brackets and bins. The search always pulls up the people who have done this on the passenger side of the rear seat which might end up being my only option.

 

So we've scratched the 13TW5 option and are moving on to an IDQ 10"? Are we still using the mysterious 600w amp from the previous thread?

 

haha well im a bit indecisive about what i want but id like to keep it stock and i think .55 is a little more practical for what im trying to do. .8 for the 13TW5 is def not gonna fit. Yeh the 600 watt amp because its the JL XD model which can fit almost anywhere

 

If you want to drop the coin you can get a JL Audio Stealth box I've heard nothing but good about them and they run 600rms and are wired for 2 ohms.

I did not realize until just now that you had been a tremendous help on my previous thread, i never got the notification for the postings that have been made. i have not ruled out that setup but im trying to keep my options open and come up with something a little different than the normal.

I have heard that the stealthbox doesnt deliver a loud bass system but that it is more of a small amount of added bass, to be honest i have heard all mixed opinions of it and for 700 bucks id like to know it is AMAZINGLY GOOD. This statement has me wondering tho. Requires permanent modifications to the plastic trim panels behind the rear seat. i have the wet okole seat covers over my rear seats will that effect the sound????

It may affect the sound a little bit but it really isn't much to me. I have subs behind my rear seat but no wet okole covers so I couldn't tell you for sure.

I have this behind the driver seat in my access cab. I have enough cable to move it around if I have passengers in the back.

 

You will not fit an IDQ (or .55 ^ft2) without modifying the plastic bin.

The Alpine Type R thin would be where I would be looking if I were trying to get something in without modifying plastic. Probably on the passenger side, and I would shoot for around half a cube. A bit smaller will be OK.

 

Curious as to why you want to keep the plastic in there? Once a sub box is in place the storage area is gone.

I don't have picsright now, but I modified a SoundOffAudio double sub box for a double cab by cutting off one sub box, and placing the remianing sub box/amp board behind the passenger side seat. That box gives .65cuft and an amp board. The plastic does need to come out, but the seat anchors stay and no other back wall mods are required. I have the seatback plastic removed, but, depending on the sub, this might not be necessary.

 

I've got this crazy idea (that when I go to cut out my plastic) of throwing a dremel-type cutting disc into the router on the router table to make a really clean, straight cut close to the front of the plastic (maybe 1/8" to 1/4" deep) that will let me reuse the plastic as a front cover to whatever sub box I build - you guys with the exposed metal under the window and side panels that just stop are crazy to me - and that I can somehow reattach the bins later on should I decide to buy a newer Taco.

That make any sense??

 

Why cut the bins at all............ I also cant stand the look of the un finished top so I made a filler cap for the top. That was way easier then trying to cut the bins. pull them out and put them in the garage. Build a box and an amp rack to meet your needs and cover the back. Or make a box and amp rack on the passenger side and have it meet up with the bin on the drivers side if your doing a single 10 or TW5.

 

or look on CL or here to find some ones old bins cut those and save your for when you up grade. Use that as the face of your TW5 or TW3 box on the passenger side and then cover it so will look factory and still be able to keep the bin on the left.

 

Yours is definately one of the more finished ones that I've seen, but I can still see the gap between the board you made and the factory panel (in the second pic)....

Ahh, that is different and makes sense. I thought your intent was to keep the stock plastic totally unmodified and in place. Problem with cutting the plastic at all is that once you do so it will never meet up exactly as stock again since the cutoff wheel takes material away.

If that's your intent, do as was mentioned earlier and find a replacement plastic to cut up. I'd like to do the same, but haven't found a reasonably priced "cutter". Price + shipping is too high for me as all I want to use is the top 6" or so.

BTW, I originally had a single sub behind the drivers side rear seat and had cut the plastic to fit around the box. Like you, wanted a nice finished look. After I upgraded to the passenger side box, I had to find a replacement plastic to fill in the driver's side again since I cut it up.

 

I agree where the outer edges of the bins connect to are still visable, This was only my first attempt. This is not my finished set up. I plan on gettin the 13TW5v2 2ohm and will then do somthing more polished that will cover or clip in to those spaces. But it will take me a bit to get the sub, its not even released yet

 

Well it seems my hopes of keep plastic in there is gone which i guess is fine. i will pro have to get Mr. Marv to build me a good custom box and do the best i can with keeping the stock look. The only thing i have seen is a box by mr marv for the passenger side that only requires cutting the bottom and part of the back of the plastic bins out. Appreciate all the help you guys have given me !!!
