Trust me, first chance I get I'll be on one of the Interstates out of here. However, my current employer has me in the state for at least the next 3 1/2 years. Did try getting out of here earlier but got told no.

...good for you, ..you're free to feel how you want and conduct your business as you want... why begrudge someone else for being a little more prepared... you don't get to choose the time/place you'll become a "cornerd cat"... unfortunately many don't have the "epiphany" until they're victimized... but, that's your perogative to assume the risk of being helpless... ;)

you'll have to start at the beginning of the thread to see how it got off track... of course it was designed as such, since many folks would be quick to jump on CA because of it's "ways"... the LA county beach crackdown may not be that big a deal, but just one more ratcheting on the 'ole come-along toward authoritarianism, ..the state gov't meddling in every aspect of your life... it's sad that the residents there can't self-police themselves enough to have a good time at the beach w/out adversely affecting the fun of others... guess we need to add more rules on top of more rules... feeling a little "stuffy" there yet? you may be ok w/ that, but many who are on the outside (of CA) looking in can see it for what it is...

Wow, what a condescending, smug, disingenuous response. ";)"

I never realized how blind, ignorant, and helpless I was being. Thanks for enlightening me.

Now keep your stately concerns to Ohio, please.

..not trying to be condescending, smug, ..just trying to make a bold contrast, ...why begrudge those who "choose" to take iniative for the safety of themselves/family?.. .. a little preparation goes a long way: fire extinguisher, spare tire, flashlight, batteries, radio, cell phone, knife, etc.. ..and when seconds count the police are only minutes away... ;)

..now you may want to enlightnen me how posting a pic w/ the middle finger extended and using harsh language is parlance of a different sort than the way you are characterizing others here...

Not to threadjack, but arguments like that confuse correlation with causation. Rather than saying these communites are safe because gun laws are "liberalized", you could just as easily say the reason why gun laws remain liberalized in these communities is because these communites are safe. Should guns become a problem, you very well might see the laws changed.

It's no different than the ATV community which, for example, maintained wide open unfettered access to cross country travel in Colorado's national forests for decades. Then the douchebags started arriving in state, taking up the sport as an adrenaline release, and started tearing all kinds of shit up. Result: Laws were tightened, and cross country travel curtailed.

Another great thing about California that I have noticed from traveling for business: A majority of women wear thongs out here. When traveling to other states and offices, all the women wear grandma panties. Huh, must be the awesome weather we have year round that has thongs as the main choice of underwear. A great ass doesn't look as good in grandma panties, just sayin'.

    ^^^ California girls... They're unforgettable.

I love the state (I'm on the central coast) staring out the window right now at work admiring the pacific ocean.

The women are beautiful (university town). I have no crime in my area (don't even have a key for my house). No traffic (only the 101 goes through my area). The weather is epic (still in the 70's in Feb). And I'm surrounded by nice people who enjoy where they live.

Only thing that sucks is the housing prices. But I'm pretty confident that anywhere I would want to live is gonna be higher priced than the "national average".

It's not for everyone, but to each their own.

Look, I'll admit we have passed some pretty stoopid laws in this state, Frisbee banning doesn't surprise me at all, I hope that the open carry gets shot down too, open carry is not the problem, people who lack economic and educational opportunities is the cause, banning open carry does nothing to fix this. You guys get the impression that it's violent and deadly all over, not true, there are areas that we know not to go in and we generally don't care to go to these places anyways. Three strikes and mandatory sentencing has loaded the prisons well beyond capacity and is in bad need of reform. That we spend more on prisons than the UC system is really wrong.
On the other hand, if it wasn't for the laws concerning the environment, we would have filthy air, undrinkable water and oil-rigs up and down the coast. I, for one is willing to put up with these laws to maintain the beauty that is here, between mining and coal fired power plants, some terrible things have gone on in other states. If that's what you like to live with, fine. We have the highest population and the highest GDP of all the states, letting corporations run rampant will fuck this state up even worse than it already is.
Call it nanny government, commie, whatever, most of us in Cali could give two shits what the rest of the country thinks of us. I'll let you in on a little secret, most of us have a HUGE superiority complex, we are better than the rest of you, the only places prettier would be AK and HI.
You guys called us Californians out and we returned fire. All this 'boo-hoo big government' crap is too many people drinking the fucking Kool-Aid, I will live with laws that maintain the natural environment rather than live with the alternatives.

Well, sorry you didn't like my comments. However, as stated, I have lived in California and thus have an opinion of that - an opinion which shouldn't be dismissed ("says the guy from Alabama? That's credible") simply because I now live in Alabama (with or without previous experience with California). Your state (not mine now) does indeed have a huge problem with random, unpredictable, crime (gangs, drug violence, drive-by shootings, etc), somewhat different than crime elsewhere (like here) where perpetrators are a bit more often known (bar fights, familiy disputes, etc) and thus the crime a bit more predictable and preventable. Bogus statistics (like that shown earlier) doesn't change that reality.

LOL. You've obviously been been listening, uncritically, to far too much Beach Boy music. In reality, the most significant difference, between other states and California, is the number of guys in the latter wearing thongs, pinky rings, and so on.
