About to drop some $$$ on new system

First off hello.

If I can get over the $$$ I need to spend, I should have a system by the end of this month. I am having a local shop do all the work.

HU I am going with JVC kw av60bt ( works with my iPhone )

Front doors hertz energy comp
Rear doors hertz energy coaxial
One sub 10 inch ( not sure yet what brand)
2 amps.

I want good sound from the system.

Anything y'all could add to help me, I would appreciate.
Different speakers or sub.

 

my personal opinion, I would say skip the JVC unit in favor of a kenwood unit...

Only $20 more (@cructchfield) than the JVC unit, but I feel that a product from Kenwood is generally more reliable and easier to use.

 

And I would skip both and go to Pioneer, like the AVH-P3400BH.

But before I made that decision, I would play with all 3 in person to check out the interface. Kenwood may have changed, but I hated their iPod interface.

And I have had no issues with any head unit using my iPhone...

 

Mattg43 I just looked at the pioneers, they just don't have the apps I want like nav, and the app radio does not let you have sat radio.
Gabej the kenwood is one I will look into a little more, the only thing I do not like is I would have to plug my iPhone into the front of the unit. Any suggestion on how to make it look less of a mess.

 

Why not run a single 5 channel amp? Saves on space and wiring. Probably would cost less too.

I wouldn't waste money on rear door speakers.

 

Be careful with Hertz there are a lot counterfeit Hertz and Focals.

 

The hertz would be from the local shop and not from eBay.

 

I think some distributors got counterfiet Hertz and are selling them to dealers, I would look online and print out the pictures of the real ones and fake ones.

yowzers.... I didn't realize it, but it seems it only has front usb input... I apologize for suggesting such a clunky setup. On that note I retract my suggestion and can only leave you with "I would avoid a JVC from my past personal experiences with the brand, its reliablity, and its quality."

There are many here that go with Pioneer units, but I find their interface and controls to be painstaking. Personally, I'll unlikely get anything other than an Alpine (Kenwood would be my second choice if not for the front only usb input) or possibly Eclipse. To me, Alpine units just sound better, are more easily navigated through, and are of higher quality than their competitors (again, just my opinion).

Again, my preference, but I wouldn't buy from anyone that isn't local, nor would I buy from someone local who isn't listed on the manufacturer's website. I work too hard for my money to risk getting screwed by some immitator in the name of saving a few bucks

 

One thing that you need to look at for your Nav unit is startup time. I owned a Pioneer 910BT for about a week and returned it because it was dog slow to start up. I think it was nearly 90 seconds till it booted and played music. Ridiculous in my opinion. I just helped a friend install a 930BT last week and it seems very nice in terms of features. Still a little slow to start up but significantly better than the 910.

 

Gabej I am going with the kenwood. I will be able to use the compartment right of the steering wheel to hold the phone. Thanks for the heads up.
Still getting the hertz esk 165 for the front and a coaxil for the rear. Kenwood 5 channel amp to push sub and speakers. 10 inch Rockford Fosgate r2 sub. This step up should do every thing that I need.

It's really not that difficult for the headunit, speakers, and amplifier... If you're good with a screwdriver you can do it.

The most difficult part of those 3 tasks is:

1. the baffles for the speakers
2. keeping the speaker channels in line when hooking up the amp
3. not knowing where screws are hidden

From when I was installing, doing these things could save you up to:

Headunit $35-40
Fronts $95
Rears $45
Amp $65

That's about $250 unless my math is wrong. That alone would be incentive enough to me to learn how to do it.

Thats the unit i bought. Im waiting on my sub and box to come in before i install but i will put up pics when i get it all done.

 

The local shop should have everything in by Friday. Then it's just finding time to drop off the truck.
