Hello. I am new to this forum. I am looking to buy a tacoma. Have always wanted a truck, but till now have not been able to have one.

Just wanted to say hi. A little bit about me first I guess, since this is an introduction. I am a recent graduate (won't give school name, or whatnot for privacy reasons). I live in Idaho right now, but would rather live someplace warm. I am a california girl at heart. Born and raise there in Southern California (again won't say the city). So sunshine and warm is what i'm talking about with only the occasional rain shower in the winter.

I am not an risk taker, but I am an adventurous person, and do like to experience new things, after very careful thought on if its worth it.

So that is me, (well sort of, at least what I feel comfortable telling about me).

    Hello Everybody ;)

Welcome to TW. Tacoma's are great truck period, I'd think you'd be happy with one. You can find alot of information on here about the different models and hear many accounts of how other members use them and what modifications they do.

FYI.... this site is very good about moderating and protecting it's members. I've met lots of great individuals through the site that I can joke with and that I'm happy to now call friends; including <------------ "Pancho". Certainly only share what you are comfortable with, but don't feel as though you need to be guarded.:spy:

Enjoy and good luck on your purchase.

I am looking at a double cab, standard bed, pretty much no difference with standard bed and long bed as far as the toyota website says. I did change my gender. Some feminist leanings tells me that the default gender should be not telling. I mean why does it have to always be male? But that is for another blog, and a different group of conversations. I am here to talk about trucks. So, I think I may sacrifice mpg for the navigation system that only comes on a double cab 4x4 v6 engine.

Basically though a double cab seems to be what I want. I want the extra room in the cab. And since the bed length is the same. It will be fine with me. Looking at the 2012. Pricy, but perfect for my wants and needs. Now I won't be hauling stuff every single day. Probably not even every single month. But the roominess of a truck just seems to be worth it.

Okay so that is the truck I am looking at, looks much likes yours Mcdowell only blue. Unless yours is blue. Nope I think yours is black.

Definitely going to be paying a nice some of money a month for the accessory package I want, but that is not going to be a problem. I already configured it, and pretty much know exactly what i want, now its just about finding it at the lots.

According to the specs, the 4x4 only has a 1 mpg penalty around town and same as 2wd on the interstate.

Not sure how true that is in real life though... I'm also trying to decide on a new truck myself.

Um (well that picture does have a long bed doesn't it. Well its similar to the truck I built on the website, but I am getting a different package), Actually I'm not sure, if there is a long bed tacoma automatic in the lot when I go again to test drive the double cab, I may take it around town, and into an empty parking lot to practice my parking with it. And then the short bed, do the same. I think the one at the lot must be the short bed. I think the short bed is fine for my needs and has enough cargo room. If I need more, I could get a bed extender.

The only thing that really confused me was the toyota website. When I built my own car. It didn't say Short bed. It said standard bed, and long bed. So I wonder if it was just the wacky build your own car thing. Anyway. I think the short bed is nice. Plus with the interior room I get, I still have enough space to store the smaller stuff. Under the seats.

The double cab does come with compartments under the seats right?

Compartments behind the seats on the double cab, and one under the rear seats but it is for the jack. Standard bed is short bed, on a DC I think the standard bed looks a lot better but to each his own after all it still is a Yota! Welcome to TW

Okay, That makes sense. Due to bigger seat size, behind the seats make sense.

Well I think I got it. Its going to be a bit of money per month for the car and truck (will most likely take half my salary), but we need to give the 98 camry back to my father-in-law, and get something just a bit more reliable, and the new cars are great that we looked at.

I am excited to get the truck. Have to wait a bit till that job application is finally completed (federal government takes a long time), however, nothing stopping me from test driving again. And seeing the differences.

Now I'm considering buying used. Different things have caused me to re-evaluate what I can afford, and a brand new truck isn't one of them.

I test drove a used Tundra yesterday, and loved it. I also test drove the F-150, that thing is a beast, and luxury on wheels. I didn't dare drive anything bigger then the f-150, and the one I drove was a 2006 Lariat. I must say, side by side, the Tundra and the F-150, I'm at a loss. I was looking through used trucks, and the F-150, there are a lot of them, and the earlier models like the 2006-2005, still is very nice. Tundras, and Tacomas used, don't stay on the market for long. F-150's on the other hand, do. So that is what I am thinking.

Anyway. Still want a Tacoma 4 door standard bed for a brand new truck, but right now I'm looking used, so I'm looking at a tundra too. So a used one will have to do for now, and I'm going to be saving up to buy it out right. Not wanting to deal with picky lenders. I have a job, just not a set amount per month. Bank did not like that. Anyway.

Hope you all are doing well. I must say, the 2006 tundra I looked at, seemed to be just the right size to me. So I will be looking at the 2006 models in trucks. Here's to hoping something works out.

And as a side note, that 98 camry is toast. Car accident, and my father-in-law didn't want to fix it. We got a nicer looking 99 Camry, and it feels better. Since this is a toyota tacoma forum, I guess talking about other toyotas isn't too far stretched. So I am fine with the 99 Camry we have now. But still saving and looking to get myself a truck, and my husband a newer Camry if that is what he wants or a Corolla, or heck, one of those little Yaris's. Test drove a Yaris yesterday too. Went from Big truck to tiny two door car. Oh the irony. I guess I like opposites (Plus the little car will be easy to tow with the truck :)).
