IMO i think this has been a good healthy discussion on the topic, I for one, look forwards to your data, there will always be naysayers to anything that one does but dynos cannot lie, it's the proof in the pudding

I think you hit it on the head..... you just posted this too soon. Get it made, get a half a dozen guys to test it for you and get real #s (keeping in mind that a lot of guys here know how to interpret data). You'll get a lot less pessimism.

Exactly my point in a way, Toyota made their engines to last. This spacer claims it won't hurt engine life, easy to install, cheap, add's horsepower. Why wouldn't they have done it??????:confused:

This a reasonable explanation of intake runner function. But not very complete. It doesn't address the harmonics of the pressure waves. Runner length is typically tuned for a particular RPM or RPM range.
Find one of the online intake runner length calculators and play around with the numbers to see what they recommend. You may be surprised.

I also saw some posts regarding exhaust gas temperatures. Peak combustion temperatures are at the stoichiometric balance. Richer OR leaner will lower this temperature.
The air/fuel ratio of 14.7 to 1 is for a standardized fuel. Gasoline with additives, especially alcohols, are lower. Sometimes much lower. Peak power is typically had with a rich mixture of 11 to 12 to 1.

And dynos can lie. Any measurement tool can be misrepresented. The more complex the tool, the more opportunity for manipulation.

Oooh... I thought they were trying the manifold spacer on both trucks, one stock, one modified to show the difference before and after

Are you looking to add pulleys a URD Y-pipe to your garage collection? You're going to end up just like OZ with his Relentless bumper :D

Coming Soon: 3" OME Lift (Sitting in garage)... DTLT Headers (also garage sitting) TRD or URD Supercharger

    Haha screw you. :brianr:

I don't plan to add the Y-Pipe for now anyway as I feel like I am going to be combating rasp by adding in the headers anyway. I have been looking into the pulleys actually... March 12, the construction begins. I should put a countdown in my sig or something.

Sorry man, I couldn't resist

I'm curious about pulleys. I've always kind of viewed pulleys as a way to eek out that last bit of power after you've attacked the other major items like intake and exhaust. Like if you've already done a bunch of work, they will help with that last little bit (at least on a N/A engine, obviously supercharger pulleys are a different story).

Doug Throrley's Y-pipe claims that their built in resonators help eliminate rasp caused by the headers. I'm actually looking into the URD Y-pipe to use with stock headers and maybe a TRD cat-back to see what it can do for me. I still need to spend some time on the phone with Gadget.

Can't wait to see the truck all built up!

Can one of you guys link me to these pulleys? I agree with you, it's about eeking out every last drop of power on these engines without the big cost of a s/c.

Yeah, I've always really wanted to boost... But then I think hell, I could put that $5k towards a sports car. I'm going after the smaller stuff, but at this point I could have easily bought an S/C with all the money I spent on just the lift stuff even!

I am kinda thinking of getting the DT Y-Pipe eventually. I have my rear cats cut out right now and have the sound where I like it. I am afraid that adding the headers and therefore removing the front cats may push me over the raspiness boundary. We shall see. I'll play it by ear though. I need to get all of the shit I have lying around onto the truck before I decide to buy any more stuff haha. Lift, wheels, tires, headers, backup cam, pop n lock, xm radio module, ballasts... Spring break is gonna be epic!
