I'm pretty sure I've been there Adam. Lol. back in highschool we made a trip to sheeps crossing from bloody basin and the 17. Long story... But in the end.. we had to get air vac'd out. Lol. Cool place back there would love to go back again. Haven't been since that experience.

Sheep Bridge is a bit east and south from the Red Creek area, but I want to get back there more. I hear Red Creek is much more secluded because it's tougher to get to but there's lots of trees and good camping.

Well the loop from the 17 goes through or by red creek I think right?

Dude, lol ok.. so, I was a sophomore In highschool with a 98 lifted 4cyl wrangler. We packed it, and a buddys beater car full of camping gear. Headed out, and It was fine for the first half of the trail.. jeep started to overheat, had to keep stopping and add water. My idler pulley was going out. then, a monsoon came in and started pouring. My buddy was coming the shit out of this car, but was having trouble with the mud and rocks and told us to go ahead and set up camp. As we came down the last hill to the Verde river, the rain had washed out a cut In the trail at an angle. Jeep slid off, and the front right tire took all the impact and broke the axle mounts and shoved the tire into the fender well. We got out, set up camp right there on the trail. 3 hours later around midnight my other friends come walking in carrying all the coolers and gear. His cars brakes went out going down the switch backs and he had to crash It ibto the side of the mtn to stop from going off the cliff.. totalled his car. We camped out, enjoyed the next day at the hot springs, swam, etc. We had no cell service to call for help. So all 6 of us loaded up into my jeep and i drove In reverse for 5 miles back up the switchbacks. Finally the idler pulley shredded the belt and we were dead in the water. I was supposed to be at work that evening. Cuz I didn't show up, my coworker called his dad who was a search and rescue guy. Also, my mom called the local news because they were flying over the Verde doing a story on the flooding. They got word of the issue, and between the news and search and rescue, there were two helo's looking for us. Thy had an idea where we were but still had to cover all that area. Roads were all washed out so they couldn't get vehicles back to find us. Finally, they rescue chopper found us, landed, and took two trips back to the bloody basin/17 entrance. We were welcomed with police, paramedics, fire, and the news. Lol. We were that nights story, with footage of my jeep stranded, buddys car totalled, etc. Lol. Not a fun trip. Had to go back out the next day with a trailer and get the jeep. lol.

Now THAT is an awesome story. Yet another reason not to own a Jeep.

Dude.. it was pretty epic. especially in our small 1A school town. Lol. Honestly. That jeep was pretty awesome. Lots of torque, manual, 4x4, soft top. Was a pussy magnet in school for sure. But I drove it hard and beat the hell out of It, so it didn't last long. Haha

I definitely want to make that trip again from the bloody basin entrance. The hot springs are awesome and If the water Is deep enough, there's rope swings off that bridge.

I'm game. Never been down there but I love that entire area. Horseshoe Lake (below the dam) is my favorite summer catfish hole.

We should make a trip out there this summer or spring actually. Theres a huge sandy beach area we can chill on and trees and perfect camping spots.

Sounds good. I want to scope out a spot while the weather is nice. How much traffic does it get up there though?

Wait until summertime though. The USFS rangers in that district tell me that they're always dealing with people out there and having to clean up tons of trash at the bridge. I'm hoping I don't go back there and find a bunch of Astro vans and dirty diapers everywhere.
