    Do I need any special tools to change the spark plugs on my '05 v6? Is there a thread as to how to do this? ps the dealer told me that iridium spark plugs were not an option for this truck and are not recommended,,, is this true?

    4.10 gears, sliders, and lots of buttons.
    No need for the Iridium plugs. No gain or advantage to be had from them. Im in Tempe, and if you want, PM me, and I can help you change them. No write up yet, but we can make one while we are at it. Use OEM Denso plugs, and Anti Seize.

    Be sure to get the Twin Ground plugs. Both sides need to be gapped.

    Dealer told me that those are not an option for that truck. Also, i just started by removing the first spark plug (single electrode) on the passenger side and think i made a BIG error. I loosend both BOLTS that i thought were holding the coil-pack wire. I soon came to realize that the second bolt is longer and IS attached to the valve cover, not the wire. DID I MESS ANYTHING UP???
    ps book say 0.043 gap???

    Ok.. Are you the original owner? The manual calls for the twin ground plugs. Your truck will run better with them. Only reason I cant think of yours haveing a single ground plug, is that someone used the wrong lug before. Manual calls for a .087 to .043. I always gap to .040 to account for gap expansion during use. I dont think you messed anything up by removeing the valve cover bolt. Just put it back.

    No, i am not the original owner. I know the guy who owned it before me and took very good care of it. (Im sorry my profile says its an 01 but i just purchased this '05 v6 a month and half ago) Thats strange because the dealer told me different and i cant find anywhere in the owners manual thats says twin electrode.

    Ok...the 05+ uses a single electrode. How far along are you changeing the plugs?

    I'm due for a tune up too!

    I use to do all my own stuff 20 years ago; now these threads have me second guessing?

    Tools are not an issue but the keeping the kids from grabbing them to play guns really limits my time.

    Any post would be appreciated. Any threads on tune-ups for do-it- yourself guys? :eek:

    It took me 2 hrs to change them. You will have to remove the airfilter box on the passenger side to reach the 1st plug and disconnect each clip from the driver side before removing the rubber part that goes into the spark plug. You will need a 10mm socket & wrench, spark plug socket, needle nose pliers, and flat head screw driver......... and alot of patience.

    far as i know, the NGK plugs are .44 and pre-gapped and works fine for the tacoma.
    I have 20k to go then I would need to do my plugs too... I wish I had a garage!
