My uncle sold new cars for 30 years.

He said you never start at the sticker price and work DOWN...you start at his cost and work UP.
Costs are available on line at Edmunds, etc.
This way he makes a couple hundred on the vehicle and always has the "holdback" coming to him later from the manufacturer. (Holdback typically 2% to 3%)

Who said anything about sticker. I've never paid sticker. I figure out what options I want and the invoice cost and determine what I want to pay. This the amount I present to the salesperson. I am non negotiable on the price. Your uncle must have been a dealer because a salesperson doesn't get any holdback money.

Truck looks good with the wheels man! I personally cant justify trading in my 08, I am going to wait to see what the 3rd gens look like in 2015ish.

    Truck really does look good...

To clarify, did your OTD price include any credit they gave you for the trade? Just curious b/c I'm familiar with dealers local to this region, and they can't make that kind of concession...

Just curious to know - thanks!

Thank you, the most noticeable change would be the refinements of the truck itself (inside and out). I love the integrated bluetooth, backup camera and homelink. I had my lower vinyl wrapped so no need now. The 6 speed is new to me but I love manual transmissions and IMO it is great (easy shifts and decent/firm pedal). I figured since I was paying the same for a 4yr older truck with 60k miles on it I should just go with a new one and enjoy the ride. Besides a manual transmission I also finally got my first 4x4 (locking rear on the prerunner was cute but did not compare).

Thank you, My full deal was this...

Trade-in: 2008 Tacoma DC TRD OR Auto with 60k miles, dvd, tint, 5100 front, block rear, ventvisors and tow. Typical scrapes and minor dings of a 4yr old, used to be daily driver. Market value was around $20k and they wanted to give me 17.5K - I Keep my wheel/tire combo

Towards: 2012 Tacoma DC SR5 4x4 6spd with Tow and Mats. Asking price $31,500

I got the paperwork to match up to:

    Trade - Payoff ($20,500)
    New - $26,040 + Wheel/Tire kept

    TTT - $29,009 OTD

I got hosed the last time I financed due to a past divorce so I didnt have much of an option on rates. This time around I worked my ass off, got per-qualified and went in with all my homework done.

I feel as if I got what I wanted at the price I wanted. I did contact the largest dealership in the area (Sun) and they said they would not have touched that deal at all (closest margin would have been an additional 2k needed on my end).

OP if you haven't gotten your tint done, I have a buddy that owns his own tint company. Its in North Pinellas but he is the best in the state. Does all the tint and clear bra work for Ferrari of Tampa Bay. He can also hook you up on anything else you want to do as far as aftermarket radios and what not. If you want his number shoot me a pm and I will get you in contact with him!!!

I appreciate the offer but the tint was cut/applied by MCOR and they did an amazing job (factory look). What really impressed me is the cut is machine based and no longer freehand.

Glad to hear you got a good one! I picked up my Off Road DC with 6 speed today (with 14 miles on it) and I think it's got a bad gear box or clutch, but maybe I'm just expecting to much?

Maybe you can help me compare...?
Mine's reluctant to go into 1st, and noisy as if the gears have super low tolerances of the internal shafts are on worn out bearings. Also it seems like my clutch isn't fully disengaging, like a worn out clutch behaves. Is yours like this at all?

    Thanks!

First is difficult to engage at anything but a crawl or stopped, the rest of the gears have a very limited range and you can engage 6 by the time you hit 50 just to keep the RPMs under 2k. The clutch pedal is firm but standard IMO to my old Mustang (centerforce) and works without an issue. I understand that this is a truck and so far it feels like a truck. It is not my 350Z clutch by any means but I knew better than to expect a smooth and elegant shift.

Am I playing in to the beast too much? maybe but I am thrilled with everything about this truck so far.

Best of luck on yours, I am not sure without having a side by side, if things are different or the same between us.

OP what motivated you to trade the 08 for the 12?
I have an 08. Just curious as to what advancements motivated you to trade.
