The 8" model you posted would indeed stick out 0.5" more than the stock rims with spidertrax.

It will also sit 0.5" closer to the uca than option A.

Ok...little confused then...in option (a) I am moving the entire set up out 1.25" so that's the amount what I would stick out from my stock set up + the width of my 285...(b) seems the same to me.... .5" out from width of new wheel + .75" (from the difference in backspacing) would give me 1.25" out from stock....maybe iam missing something...In option (b) it looks like I will only clear the UCA by 1/4" because I am getting 1/2" closer to UCA by going with 8" wheel ..then pushing it out .75" via backspace:confused:
and (a) looks like it clears it 1.25"......I am asking because I hear 4.5 is the correct bs for aftermarket wheels...thanks for any additional info

Alright so the stock wheels are 7" wide and 5.25 BS. Let's start with that.

Scenario 1: Add a spidertrax spacer. That pushes the inner edge of the wheel out 1.25", and the outer edge of the wheel out 1.25"

Scenario 2: aftermarket wheels 16x8 zero offset 4.5 BS:
That pushes the inner edge of the wheel out 0.75" (5.25 BS minus 4.5 BS), and the outer edge out 1.75" (0.75" due to BS, and 1" due to additional width).

So the second wheel will sit 0.5" closer to the uca then the first one, as well as stick out 0.5" further from the wheel well.

Keith, I really appreciate the the time and info. I def. understand the first scenario spidertrax would push the whole thing out 1.25". The second scenario...I am getting there ...I just keep coming up with 8" widthwheel= .5" closer to UCA on the "inner wheel" and .5" + .75 of BS = 1.25 for the outer edge which would stick out the same....I will get it eventually.....which is better to clear the UCA ?? thanks again I know you are very popular on this site so thanks for the time

You won't have a problem clearing the uca with either one.

You have to add the full 1" of wheel width to outer edge, not half of it, because backspacing already takes the 1/2 width into account.

So in an example where two wheels have the same backspacing but different width, all of the additional width HAS to be added on to the outer edge, otherwise the backspacing would change.

Halleluyah!! its just clicked....had to draw it out (a) 16x7" stock wheel mounts 5.25" into wheel with 1.75"of wheel left to stick out towards wheel well if I add spidertrax to this I get 1.25" more towards fender= 3" total

    (b) aftermarket 16x8 4.5 bs and 0mm offset...mounts 4.5" into wheel with 3.5" of wheel left to stick out towards fender...hence (b) would stick out .5" more than (a) like u said to begin width...woooosh got thanks again for all the help

Do you care if the tires rub or not? Or do you just want to know what width tires are approved for the wheels, with future upgrades in mind?

Well I will be lifting the truck three inches when I purchase the tires. So with a three inch lift and trd rims, what's the widest tire I could install?

my tars rub frame now. i understand concept of pivot point and that at a certain point tire can't touch frame, but as it goes further out does that mean that it is more likely to rub on the uca?

essentially what I am asking is if there is a negative correlation between rubbing frame and rubbing uca

The further the tire sticks out, the more likely it is to rub the fenders (due to the increased turning arc).

The further the tire sits in, the more likely it is to rub on either the uca or the frame.

ok, I can't figure it out. I ordered a set of Vision Scorpion wheels. 16x8. 4.5 BS. 0 Offset. They're rubbing the caliper. Both Vision and 4WheelParts said they would work fine. Thoughts?

Get a different kind of wheel. The rubbing depends on the brand and model of the wheel, not the backspacing specs.

    What about these with 285/75s?

    Ballistic Havocs
    16x8 - -6 offset

the backspacing would be 4.25" right? will they fit?
