I've run a few different filters. First was the URD intake with Amsoil filter it comes with. Good stuff, and usually a 10-15* cooler air charge at the MAF sensor. I was trying a little off-roading, and was concerned about sucking water in with the URD, so I changed. Then I went to stock airbox with the carbon filter delete, and a K&N drop-in. Problem here was I was constantly cleaning the MAF every oil change. If I didn't, I would get wierd idle characteristics, like high idle, low idle, stalling, rough starts. Cleaning the MAF would cure those problems for a while, but they would always come back. Had to clean it every oil change. Got sick of it, and went to a stock filter in the airbox. Dirty MAF problem went away, and I really haven't noticed any difference in throttle response or mileage.

So as my truck sits today, I have a stock filter in a stock airbox with the carbon filter deleted.

I live in the high desert of socal. With a KN air filter....Found the intake to my 2005 Dodge 2500 diesel loaded with dirt. Nothing worse for an engine than fine dust particles. I will stick with the stock filter. As far as improving gas milage and performace, Prove it .... Good Luck.

I just bought a k&n for my 2.7l 12 reg cab, is amsoil really better? All I want is maybe a little better MPG not really expecting gains at all.

I use a K&N, but cleaned all the red oil from filter and exchanged for GREEN oil..... Major difference in cleanliness of intake and seems to perform a little better. IMO.

i wanted to edit im using a K%N drop in filter and I wlnt be offroading but I didnt edit it right. I think I waas half asleep on the forum last night lol up till like 3am and 10pm-3am was a blur. But I did just buy a K&N drop in and have been reading about removing the secondary filter. is it worth it? Its a 2012 I'm just scared to hack/remove/customize things on such a new truck its a week old with 2** miles. I want better MPG I know I have to do more then a CAI for HP gains. Eventually I would like to do Headers and Exhaust with a CAI(that actually breaths better and is better then stock box-if there is one?)

You could do the secondary delete and just keep it around. Wouldn't take more than a few dabs of silicone to put it back later and no one would know the difference. I wouldn't bother on the v6 but it is noticeable on the 4banger for most of us. btw I run an afe pro dry s, it's great.

I was tired of worrying about the thin K&N see through when you hold up to light so I put a nice furry Fram in. I sleep better now and am hoping to see a drop in silica levels on next oil analysis.

Good quality paper replacement, like Napa Gold. Best filtration, no power loss, quieter intake......perfect :D

I've used many different filters over the years but so far I like the Amsoil pro dry S filter. The K&N oil filters are "nice" but they require cleaning and reoiling! Plus I think they dirty up your MAF sensor. Mine was filthy when I decieded to switch from my spectra(K&N knock off) to the pro dry. And yes I know I didnt over oil the filter. I'm pro dry or stock all day!

I just added a K&N and notice the bump in HP, and it sounds pretty awesome when stomping on the throttle. I also got about a .5 - 1 mpg gain as well. Hard to tell though, because up until this recent jump in gas prices, I was stomping on the gas to hear it growl more.

If I could sell my damn car i'd love to get the supercharger too. I can't fathom what another 60+ HPw would add.

replacing a stock filter with a full k&n intake is much better than stock.
