help designing box for DC truck

Ok...I have purchased to very very cheap 8" subs because the mounting depth falls in spec, they supposedly require very small sealed enclosures, but everything I ready says they also like vented. I bought 2 of them, but am thinking of only running 1 since they amount of space we have in the 2nd gen dual cabs. so can someone help me maybe design a box that is ported? I have read they like around .7-.8 ft cu as far as a vented box...thinking of tuned to around 35hz. I dont mind to take up the whole back wall area behind the seats. It would be very awesome if I could run both, but dont think that would happen. Where do I need to begin? I know the basic measurements of the back of the truck, but dont know much as far as designing a ported box since I am mainly used to sealed.

yeah...ive seen him mentioned alot. I want to build it myself and all of that and dont want to have to pay someone for just a little gain of knowledge...haha.

 

Well good luck with that. I bought the box in my truck and my car. Too much to consider when making one, I learned that the hard way. It's easy to make one that does sound proper and hard to make one that fits the sub and for it to fit in the space you need. It can be done, but you'll want to make it to where it will go with the specs of the sub. And you'll want a good amp to push it. Cause without a good amp it won't mater how nice your box is. If you don't have to power to push it, it won't matter, and won't sound good. Found that out the hard way as well. Had to go through 2 amps, and 2 boxes to learn that.

 

thanks...ill be able to do it...im pretty handy at building things and always do everything myself. Just not familiar with installing a port tuned tuned to a certain spec.

 

well you're not going to get much help from anyone until you give us specifics on the subs.... what brand, what model, link to a website, etc... No one can tell you anything definitive without knowing what they're/you're dealing with

 

lanzar max 8. They dont have the actual recommended enclosure volume on the site or within the manuel...but I provided what others have had the best luck with in previous posts.

but ya, not much help.... and from what I'm seeing, it almost looks like these things are "throwaway" subs... buy it, burn it up, throw it away & buy another one... I'm seeing prices as low as $15 from some places.

Throw away those Lanzar's.. Your going to spend more on wood than what those speakers are worth.

 

Dont need the recommended enclosure volume, need the T/S parameters.

If you just want to do a random guess, there are a ton of port length calculators online. The port length (and tuning) will depend on the area of the port, so that is an important consideration.

This is a super low budget build and is going based off good reviews from others who have had experience with these. If you have nothing more constructive on box building or tuning aspects of a box, then input is not needed.

Thanks...I had already looked at that numerous times....just did not supply it on here just due to looking for info on how to tune a port and that did not give much info on what to use for volume. lol

Thanks...yeah I was playing with that program. I dont seem to have every one of the specs that the program asks for.

 

You dont need them all. They help, but are not all needed. Fill in what you have and see what it spits out.
