    So apparently some P.O.S. decided to cut two of my tires last night. Damn... so I get out my floor jack and jack stands and take off my tires and off to the tire store. Get there and they have to order the tires and I have to wait several hours, still waiting as I'm typing. All this got me to thinking what if I was on the road and not at home with the tools???? I have a 2010 D.C. short bed with a 3" lift, factory step bars. It is my understanding that a hi lift jack needs sliders or at least better step bars to work for a tire change.. correct? I guess my question is what is best to keep in the truck for a tire change with a lifted truck? any suggestions?

    To be honest I didn't want to ride around with a floor jack in my tool box if i could help it. the box is pretty full already.

    What size tires are you running? My spare is a 245 and im running 285's... So I am screwed anyways...

    A piece of 4x4 or 6x6 will do the trick. You can also use a ratchet strap around the axle and frame. This prevents the leaf springs or a-arms from flexing. Make sure it's a beefy strap if you go that way. You don't want it to snap on you.

    I guess I don't understand the question :rolleyes: Is the problem that the factory axle jack won't fit with both tires flat?

    I have been using a hydraulic scissor jack similar to this one for years. Mine came with a case and it is very compact and fairly light. It compresses down to 5" but lifts to 15

    I think the concern is that the factory Jack is to short to lift a lifted truck high enough. Or that it can't be used to lift the entire front or rear, its designed for lifting only one wheel. Not sure.

    I have 265/70/17 tires. The concern is the factory jack is most likely too short to lift high enough to remove a tire with the 3" lift I have.

    The factory jack with a 4x4 under it will lift my front tires up enough to change them out...

    Kinda. The difference in tire sizes makes your spiders "walk" that is to say ordinarily they don't walk(move) while driving straight, only through turns. When theres a difference in tire size in an open differential your spiders work overtime and you can wear them out eventually. With the LSD you're working that LSD overtime as well... Not a good thing to do.

    You'll be okay for a short period with the open. Not sure how long I'd run the LSD like that though, not sure how fragile the clutch discs are.

    Last time I called AAA I was very specific about the equipment required to get my truck out of its predicament. They sent a completely unprepared truck. I was a ways out, too, so instead of 2-3 hours it took about 7-8 to get a wrecker with the proper equipment. I also had to pay that driver $200 out of my own pocket then wait 6 weeks for AAA to reimburse me. AAA is awesome if you stay on the road. Don't plan on calling them for help if you use an OR Tacoma for its intended purpose :)
