On the TAcoma, the reattachment point is at the base of the windshield. All models, and further up on lifted ones.

I have done this. Its not as accurate as a wind tunnel. Do some research online and see what you find. Being as you are a mechanical engineering student, and have access to wind tunnels, Im supprised that you actually think the hood scoop can be made functional. Look at how low it sits on the hood, the area in which it lies, etc.

Installed Overhead Compass and Temperature Display along with outside temperature sensor and wiring; LED lights reverse backup; LED license plate lights; Added GTA Bluetooth Audio kit to stock radio for iphone audio; Spare tire steel braided air hose extension connection to rear bumper; Installed new headlights along with new bulbs PIAA H4 XTreme and for fog lights PIAA H10 XTreme bulbs. Installed new hood with "hood-scoop". Installed Predator Side Steps. Replaced front chrome grill with customized color matched (Desert Sand Mica) grill with added TOYOTA lettering (also in matched color), installed and secured tailgate anti-theft devices. Also installed a new external TPMS monitor for all 4 tires.
Damn good idea in my opinion.

One question... but does the drier still work without its hose? LOL

We did the exact same thing that you are doing back in the late 70's with a 1970 Olds Cutlass supreme. It ran bad under certain conditions so we disconnected it. Of course back then we didn't have computer controlled engines, we had to deal with things like carburetors, chokes, and heat risers.

Have you ever had an engine hydrolock? I have, it's not a good experience.

sweet baby jebus. this is one of those threads from back in the day when there were 5000 members on TW, 285s on a Tacoma was "not possible", and plastidip didn't come in aerosol cans. it was a simpler time. we were all young, dumb, and ugly, and nobody had a clue.

@colinb17 thanks for the update. glad we are all on the same page. My reasoning for searching custom intakes last night was to find a good solution to my fiberglass fenders not having the internal thin plastic protecting dirt, sand, mud, and water kicked straight into the fender well air intake scoop....I have some ideas of my own but was obviously curious to find other ideas.
How did you go about protecting this scoop vulnerability with aftermarket fiberglass fenders?

happy friday...hope everyone is going wheeling tomorrow
