I bought the truck from a family member for $4000. Long story short, she is now disabled and the state is taking care of her. The state is selling off her stuff, including this truck.

It's a great truck, but if I could had my choice I would have gotten an extended cab or double cab TRD 4x4 (01-04). If they do fail it, that is what I will be looking for.

The frame has surface rust but I have only had it since Saturday, and have not had a chance to really look it over.

If it passes, then I will keep it.

I just got my 2000 inspected last Friday. It passed the guy said it looked really good and to drive and enjoy it it'd be worth a lot of money, because before the warranty time was up it was definitely going to fail. So either way you can enjoy your truck :)

I'm not sure how the whole thing works, either. Did they only recall some? I never saw one for my '01.

Call the dealer, to make an appointment. Take a look under to see if you see any holes on the frame(probably be on passenger side), if it does it will definetly fail. if you think it will fail make sure you take everything you want to keep out or off of it, because they won't let you leave with it if it fails. Oh and u don't need that letter.

Isn't the rust problem occuring from inside the frame and not the outer surface?

From what I hear. The same thing happen to my 78 CJ-7. Looked fine from the outside, but rusted from the inside out.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
There are rumors of frame replacement for those yea models. Some info here

I took mine home after it failed, cleaned her out, took one last mountain ride and took her back a week later.

    see here for more info

True. The test includes smacking the frame with a hammer to see if it penetrates.
