Bad wheels

Great news!......My dealer contacted me and informed me that my wheels are being replaced under warranty.Unfortunately they are on back order but the main thing is that they are on thier way.Apparently the regional people flat out said NO,so my service manager went over his head.He explained to these folks that I was a die hard Totota truck enthusiest and was a member of an online community that networks information on Tacomas.He also forwarded the documented correspondance I provided from a member here showing how a precedent had been set with his replacement.I absolutely believe that without that on paper I would have been out in the cold.

Very special thanks to Longboard for his help with this.....This forum is a great place and here is a great example of a member helping another.On that note,if I can do the same for anyone please don't hesitate to contact me.I'd love the chance to pay it forward.

Mine are blistering big time. 'o6 17". I doubt any warranty coverage now. Toyota may have just lost a customer as this is pretty shoddy material'

i got the same issues as well 07 trd offroad, with only 13k on it, and the clear is comin off too wtf....

 

Has anyone had any luck getting a dealer to do a good faith replacement on these wheels out of warranty? I have an 06 that I bought December 2005 and all 4 wheels have significant issues!

 

I have an 06 SR5 4x4 model with 16" wheels. I had the same problem and when I asked my dealer about it they immediatley said they would be replaced as there are ongoing issues with these wheels as of late. They were already aware of the issue and knew exactly what I was talking about. Had new wheels in a week, no problems.

 

Hi all, thought I would let everyone know I just went to the dealer for the same problem. Got 4 brand new wheels next day, no questions asked!

 

HIT THE DEALER NOW! This is what warranties are for...you don't know what could be happening to that metal under there...

 

i'm out of warranty and the best i could get was half off refinish (i tried to ask for powdercoat but they wouldnt go for it). and it is an issue with the finish and NOT the alloy. the rims are structurally safe and will not be an issue, its just the crappy finish on it

 

OK, so basically getting them blasted and like powdercoated would solve it?

 

from what i have been told yes. i went to a buddy who owns his own refinishing shop and he told me that it has to do with the finish and not the alloy. the alloy is perfectly ok but the finish is crap. i will likely get him to do the blasting for me and get them powder coated

 

Not the cheapest way out but sounds like the best option if you can.

 

well, he is gonna blast them for free. i have done some work for him and he is gonna have them already to go and he thinks he can get them power coated for less than what yota offered

 

Damn! If I ever have a problem once I guy my Sport can I just send my wheels to you and have you pass them to him? I mean that is just an awesome deal.

Just be careful if you get them done in a different color and hang on to your paperwork. If the issue comes back later they may try to blame it on you "painting the wheels" have the paperwork handy so you dont get screwed!

 

Good advice BAT24 and a concern I had as well.Fortunately I got brand new wheels under warranty.....I then bought a second set and had them powdercoated black.

 

Awesome, I am glad they took care of the issue for you without much of an issue. I fortunately have not had an issue my truck has the Black Powdercoated Baja Wheels.

 

Something ate right through the clearcoating on them. Probably road salt.
