Hello to new and old members of this site. I was wanting to pick the minds of its members on a few things. The first off is researching a new truck I am set on a Tacoma 4x4 dbl cab with the extended bed. I was curious though about chevy's as well. I am not by any means a chevy person however I feel as though the tundra's new body style is to big and blown up. I feel as though the older Tundras had a simplistic design to them. I was wanting to know if anyone else felt the same way.

The other part to this is to tell everyone I am familar with Toyota's and I feel as though they make a great product. Just that they made the Tundra to big.

Well take care and can't wait to hear back from you

    Yes.
    Welcome to TW.

The Tundra is too large for my needs, that's why I have a Tacoma.

Welcome! The Tacoma works for my needs. Large enough for four adults, good towing capacity, decent fuel economy and hey, it looks good too.:D

If you really need a full size, a Tacoma might not be the truck for you. I went with a Tacoma because my old Z71 was too big for the city and the Toyota will tow and haul everything I need it to. If I were to buy a full size, I'd go with either the F-150 or the Chevy. If you want to stick to Toyota and can get over the Tundra's physical size, the smaller V8 will do much better on fuel vs. the I-Force 5.7L and has good power. I've had great luck with Chevy in the past and wouldn't hesitate to buy another one (full size, I didn't like the Colorado).

What are you needing to tow/haul that you think a new Tacoma will struggle with? How often will you be needing this?

I have a good friend that got a 4wd 4 door Tundra and loves it. He has owned Tahoe's, Sequoia's, Z71 trucks, etc and likes the Tundra more. He hauls very heavy loads once or twice a week...

Sometimes is not always the weight, it's the phsyical size. It's nice to be able to throw sheet goods between the wheel wells if you haul that sort of thing often. The new Tundra is nice, but if you ever drive one, it's a boat. Lots of power, comfortable to sit in but it just feels huge on the road.

I definitely agree that the new Tundra at least seems to have really grown in size. I thought the previous gen was a great looking truck.

Just a tip that helps me. I have the bed extender, and with that and the 2 2x6 boards that fit into the cutouts, it makes for a nice level way to haul 4x8 sheets of anything.

Sorry no photo. Photobucket locked me out...

I was actually doing the same thing until I bought a shell. I cut 2 - 2x6's to fit the notches in the bed, put a platform of 3/4" plywood on it and slide in the plywood. I didn't know there was a bed extender that was the same height, that would have been handy. Now I finally broke down and purchased a small trailer for moving sheet goods (it's also not my profession, otherwise I'd have a full size with an 8' bed).

You have to look at your needs...I have a Access Cab Tacoma with the 65" bed, and since I only haul sheet goods a few times a week, for personal projects, it all I need.

I prefer short beds since they will hold a motorcycle, and fire wood, and camping gear, and hay, feed and other requirements of rural living. If I worked in a building trade, I would probably have a 1 ton dually...

On the other hand, there is nothing wrong in having a trailer on hand for the things that won't fit into a regular bed.

Cost, reliability, utility are key factors, but also is easy of parking, traction on unimproved roadways and how much fun they are to drive...

Thank you for everyone's quick post. I have a 6x10 trailer with four foot metal sides on it. I got this for camping and taking on camping trips and being able to tarp and keep everything dry if needed. In the future I plan on getting a boat and small tractor. However I do not pull heavy trailers on a regular basis. I plan on keeping this truck for sometime and want the reliablity to be very high. I feel as though the Tacoma will suit my needs, but I would like more interior space similar to a Z71. The first gen Tundras I feel like were the right size. The new tundras do feel like a boat and massive.

Let me know what you think
