i'm drawing up a idea for a in-bed rod holder. With a short bed i often have to angle my rods in the bed diagonal. takes away alot of space for coolers and stuff.

how do you put your rods in the truck? assuming you don't use the cab, because i often have a full truck.

    any pics?

    thanks

3 or 4" PVC with caps and the reels removed works well if your rods are long. With a roof rack it works very well, otherwise it may have to overhang the bed. But keeps them contained well and safe.

I attached a 5ft piece of 2" PVC to the side of the bed using the rail system, some 1" bolts, and pipe hangers cut to size. Notched one end of the tube to accept the reel seat, and can slide a 9" fly rod broken in half without problem.

If I am meeting someone else to go in their boat I lay my 7" one-piece rods diagonally across the bottom of the bed with the butt ends behind the driver. I put a rubber bath mat underneath the reels to keep them from sliding around. I use one of the stock clips in the track system behind the passenger seat with a bungee thriough the handles of the tackle box and coolers to keep them off the rods.

I am considering one of the portable racks to hold all the rods up off the floor but would still need to fasten everything else down.

If we take my boat my rods are in the boat in rods racks on the side of the boat or fastened down with Rod Saver straps on the front deck.

this is my problem as well...i have bigger deep dea rods that are between 6-7 feet long. i like some of the suggestions above but i dont think it'll work for me. last night i drew up a sketch of a rack that will hold the rods above the bed. The tips would slightly hang off the back of the bed. if it go through with it i'll post pics

While it is not installed yet, I plan to put an Undercover tonneau on the truck where I can lock everything up. That would preclude having anything hanging out the end.

My biggest fear is the tips of my Loomis rods. I tend to be real paranoid about protecting them.
