    What's your opinion?

First.....I'm on sucky ass Sprint service.

I have a Samsung Epic 4G....have had it a while. It has Gingerbread on it.
It does lock up on occasion.....slow response sometimes. It's my first Android phone. I like the slide out keyboard.....but other than that.....meh?!

Thinking about getting a 4S. Everyone I know has an Android of some flavor (Samsung, HTC, Motorola, etc) so I figured I'd ask you folks.

I have an Ipod touch so I kind of know the basics of IOS.

So do your best...convince me yes or no.

And for the record...I am pretty much anti MAC...anti Apple....etc but Ipods and Iphones I think are pretty damn good products. :D

Love my iPhone. I have the 4 and it works as fast as I could ever want. I've had iPhones since the original. Then skipped to the the 3G, then skipped the 3GS for the 4.

The 4S isn't worth the extra cash if you ask me. If you need a phone, save your money and get the 4 (if Sprint even offers it? ), then you'll have some cash for when the 5 comes out. Rumors say June. But rumors also said the 5 was coming out when they announced the 4S. So who really knows. But something new has to be coming pretty soon.

Unless you're going to AT&T the iPhone 4S is going to be a 3g device. On AT&T it utilizes HSPA+, which is slower than LTE but faster than 3G.

I have nothing against Apple phones. My wife has a 4 and loves it. I prefer Android's customization.

Have you looked into alternative ROMs? They might make your phone work better. Check out XDA-Developers.com for your device:
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=713

You could even make it look iPhone 4ish with a MIUI rom.

FWIW ... I had a 3G iPhone on AT&T ... then a 3GS on AT&T ... then moved to Verizon and got a Motorola Razr on Gingerbread O/S (great phone but too complicated for me) and went back to a 4GS iPhone on Verizon and love it for being so simple.

Wife went to a Droid Bionic on Verizon and now wants to go back to an iPhone.

Personally, I think that the "Google Droid" system can probably do more and is maybe better for the computer geeks, but IMO, it is more difficult to use.

With all this said ... we switched from PCs 3 years ago to overpriced Apples and have never looked back ...have never had a crash since then either ... :D

I like Apples for now ... but Google is getting in the cell phone business big time and my thoughts & opinions may be different in another 5 years too.

PS ... The new iPhone 5 will "probably" be out this summer or early fall ... but no ones knows for sure ...

PPS ... Previous to changing to Verizon last December ... I was with the same carrier since 1984 (27 years) and watched those companies morph into AT&T cellular.

DO IT.. iPhone is so much simplier. Once you go iPhone you will not go back. I have the 4 and it's over a year and a half old and it's as good as the day I bought it. Highly recommended

My GF had an Iphone 3 (AT&T)loved it it took a shit last saturday and she joined my plan, I am with Verizon I have an HTC Incredible, she now has the Razor and loves it. No more Itunes. I honestly have no preference as I believe it is based on you. But I do like as does the GF the freedom you have with the Android system. We are by no means geeks are even really up to speed. If you can use a computer you can use the Android system. Just my $.02

Lapdocks are pretty cool too. I have the Atrix. Using stuff from XDA, I was able to get a full Debian linux running on mine. Here's a screenshot of the lapdock desktop (Open office, Gimp, full mozilla browser, full use of the phone on the right):

AT&T's service is still technically 3G. I haven't heard about the HSPA+ system but I imagine that has something to do with why AT&T iPhone users can use data while being on a call?

Actually the ITU (the association who set the standard) declared it as 4G. AT&T also has 4G LTE (available in San Diego and some other large metropolitan areas). HSPA+ is also the system T-Mobile uses. Prior to the ITU turnabout, not even WiMax or LTE were considered 4G.

Using data while on a call is a CDMA/UMTS issue, not a 3G issue. CDMA (verizon) can't do it. UMTS can (UMTS is the 3g version of GSM).

 So you're saying an iPhone 4 that says it runs on AT&T's 3G network is actually basically running on 4g?

It's a Motorola program called Webtop that starts up automatically when you plug the phone into the lapdock or an HDMI dock (for the TV). Stock, it comes with the ability to access all the phone's features in addition to a full mozilla browser. It also has a built-in citrix client that allows you to display a remote desktop on the phone's screen.

The modification I made above to the phone allows me to run an xterm which I then use to start the Debian desktop. It then functions as a standard laptop running debian linux but it all resides on the phone itself.

The lapdock is just a device that looks like a laptop. It's really just a dumb terminal into the phone. All it has is a screen, keyboard, trackpad and some USB ports. It also has a battery that charges the phone when you plug it into the dock. So on a plane, I can use the phone for an entire flight (San Diego to Washinton DC) unplug the phone from the dock and it's still fully charged. I could get the same display by plugging it into the HDMI craddle and viewing it on a tv screen.

Here's a demonstration video showing the phone running

    On the lapdock:

virtual desktop through the HDMI craddle:
