Am I the only one who hates these new auto. trans. on the 2nd gens? I've got a 2005 dclb 4x4 sport with the auto trans. and this thing is ANNOYING. Dont get me wrong i love my truck and it has 116,00 miles with hardly any problems, but toyota needs to step it up in the transmission department. I've read about people having issues with the 6spd. and the auto aswell. whats the deal? It shifts sloppy, slipps every now and then, trys too hard to simulate a manual.(yet toyota says its normal, hahaha) I had the trans. flushed at the dealer at 100k and it still shifts the way it always has (guess thats not a bad thing though). I guess its starting to be true about what people are saying.....the newer toyota trucks are getting more into convenience, ipods, electrical bs,butt warmers, being pretty etc instead of badass 4wd, durability, etc. The 2nd gens dont seem to like lifts either, but luckily i never had an issue with mine...maybe i shoud look at getting another 1st gen or older. I had an 02 and it seemed way better..just my sole opinion though.

I hear you man. Just search my user name and you'll see I've said the same thing.

Mine hasn't ever "slipped". My problem is it shifts to hard.
(Actually all of them I've been in with a 4.0 have shifted hard to a degree, but mine is WORSE)
And if it's cold outside it REALLY shifts hard. You can feel it in your seat.
I'm like WTF?, did my truck just kick me in the A$$?
I've had mine looked at by Toyota and bet you can't guess what they said?
They said it's normal and is FINE.

Oh well, I'll drive it until it breaks down (if it ever does?), then they can't say it's NORMAL.

i've also read somewhere that if u disconnect the battery cables for a few minutes, then reconnect it will reset the trans. computer...is that correct? i havnt tried that route though....

Didn't help mine. I tried that and left it unhooked for 2 hours.
All it did was delete all my radio stations and had to reset the clock.
    Not worth it.....Get it reflashed.

Mine was reflashed, but that will not help the hard shifting. The dealer reflashed mine before I bought it. So maybe that's why it doesn't have the 1-2 gear problem.

mine only shifts a little harsh when going into 5th gear sometimes... seems like it depends on throttle position at the time of shift?.. shifts through the rest of the ratios seems very good..

Mine sometimes shifts a little hard, but thats usually when its cold out, and I'm going uphill from 2-3. Other than that its nice and smooth.

Lately I've been noticin git downshifting and engine breaking a lot while going downhill, but then again I just moved from a completely flat city to city that actually has hills, so it could be that I'm just not used to it.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
Durability wise you would have hard time finding better transmission. This thing is rated to pull 15000+ lb Even if you load truck to max and tow 6500lb behind it its just goign to keep going. Those things had been in almost every durable toyota truck worldwide and nobody has problems with them. Coupled with 1gr-fe I am worry everything else will rust to shits before engine and tranny will make nay hickup :)
