Part of me thinks no, they won in accordance to the rules in the era they played in. But upon further thinking what if a team had ran 30 home wins in a row but tied a game right in the middle, they wouldn't make that list.

It's probably because it's my team but I typically feel asterisks should be reserved for some sort of turbulance in rules, or something. In 30 years we don't know what the rules will be, will a team that runs on new rules then have a double asterisk because they played with Adamantium sticks and skates on space ice? Where would it end?

 

How many wins of the 21 were in OT ?

 

Back in the days the Bruins and Flyers did it there wasnt 29 other teams with the possibility of winning on any given night. Much easier league. I think the record by the Wings holds value because they did it within the rules of the League currently.

Either way you look at it, I wouldn't want that 8th playoff spot going into the Joe for round 1 this year.

I do not see this record as impressive as the others then

 

but again, what will then do in 20 years when the rules change again? add yet another set of asterisks or a smiley face or something? The date stamp should be enough to equate that it's per the era's rules.

I don't disagree that it was harder back in the day, but I can't see having a legend to decipher record books.
