With the selection of good self defense ammo out there these days the debate for or against 9mm Vs. 45ACP is moot. When REAL WORLD factors are put into play such as penetration, expansion and velocity the 2 calibers are just decimal points in difference. It comes down to platform in the end though and ones' own ability and skill level in shot placement. I'll take a 9mm anyday over any caliber. My reason being that I can carry more bullets, shoot more bullets and actually find more bullets to buy.

For me it doesn't really matter. I feel very comfortable shooting just about every caliber round on the market. If its either/or situation I'll take the .45 just for the little bit of extra punch it has. That being said I have an uncountable about of time at a range firing many different guns, mainly my G22 .40, and am proficient at firing the gun, bringing it back down, and reestablishing my sight picture, clearing jams quickly, fast target acquisition, etc. Fwiw I'll take my Glock .40 over any other handgun because it will hold 16+1 rounds, has failed to eject only 8 times running the same ammo in the same magazine got rid of that box and have shot over 5,000 rounds without a problem

Also, when considering jhp for defense ammo shoot about 100-150 rounds of it to make sure it cycles and eject correctly through your gun.

45 to me is better than a 9. but i like 40 cal hydroshockz, FEDERAL. but remember, one well placed shot from a 410. Judge is all u really need. For that matter, 1 well placed shot from any fire arm to the face or heart of a soft target well incapacitate them,Permantly

9 is cheaper and great for paper
45 is more expensive and better in my opinion for social use.

So pratice with .22 to develop trigger and proper form skills and to develop muscle memory saving some money, and then .45 to fine tune your skill.

I like large slow projectiles over small fast ones.

Both work if you do your part but I feel the .45 gives you an advantage if you are slightly off.

I thought you might like that.

I never knew the .40 was the trimmed done version of the 10mikemike.
I did some reading on the round and me likey! might have to join the club..

Theres lots of similar stories out there...it happens all too often

With that being said...since we are discussing caliber

SCHP Trooper Mark Coates was shot and killed by a man wielding a .22 revolver...Coates was shot 1 time in the vest and 1 other time under the arm during the struggle

The dirtbag was shot 5 times by Coates who was carrying a .357

    The dirtbag is still alive

i voted 9mm, my xdm holds 20 PDX1's. I love the capacity, less recoil for better follow up shots, and the price of ammo

ok. I can indeed agree with that. if someone, brakes into your home, has a knive and gets close enoungh to you that you have approx 2 to 3 feet and you shoot them in the heart. or center of the face above the nose or eyes, they are dead.

you probably shouldnt let that person get that close before shooting them...you'll probably still get stabbed and not make the shot youre describing

a charging attacker can close the gap of 30 ft quicker than almost everyone can draw, aim and fire

one of my squad members had a guy charge him in a hallway with a knife...he already had his gun out, fired 2 rounds puncturing both lungs...the guy dropped after putting the knife in the wall beside the officers head

Someone wearing a medium weight jacket and corrective lenses could mostlikely survive a 410 to the face and body. Even if you shot him with all 5rounds in the Judge.

It makes no sense to use a cartridge made for shooting squirrels in 1900 out of a 20 inch barrel, then putting the same cartridge in a pistol witha 3 inch barrel and expect it to be some devastating weapon of mass intimidation.

The Judge is a snake gun and that is it, not a viable defensive weapon.

I did pick - and I picked .45 - amazing round!! My EDC is a Kimber Stainless Pro TLE II and I LOVE it!! Work uses a .40 Glock so I carry what I get paid to - but when it comes to all else... .45 is for me!! (It is a personal preference - I always agree that it is better to hit with a 9mm or .40 than to miss with a .45).

Having done just .45 and just 9mm and both I am firmly planted in the 9mm side of things. ALL handgun rounds are weak. 9mm costs half what .45 does. .40 kicks 95% as hard as .45 and costs as much too. The only advantage is ammo capacity. 9mm with GOOD ammo, not crap... in a 127 +P+ load for duty or 147 for use with a silencer. Also 9mm is WAY quieter suppressed than .45 is when suppressed.

If it was FMJ only then .45 all the way, but with good ammo 9mm is just fine... ammo choice is very critical for 9mm though. Most .45 guys (not all) get it because of some imaginary machoismo bullshit and then go away from it at some later point for realistic and practical reasons.
