I can understand this. He's upset because he thinks you can't go to him.
Your upset because he said be careful where you park and you got hit.
I think you'll find your dad has been through stuff like this in his youth.
You'll be fine when this is over.. Learn from it..

report it to your insurance just so there is a claim in the books. Then decide what to do. But it sounds like OP already made up his mind

Get a quote for the damage and tell the shop to add on a few grand so you can get a lift or something out of it lol.

At least the guy left his info when he kit you, he could have just taken off ... The damage doesnt seem that bad, I would see if he will just cover the body shop costs, if not call your insurance...

Its not like you are screwing him. He hit you! I have see it, done it, just call his insurance. At least if you want go get a bid give it to him and if he balks even the tiniest bit just file with his insurance. This just happened to my sister. The guy was a dick about the bid so she just filed with his insurance. It will save a lot of headaches.

Don't try to be nice, his insurance premium isn't your problem, and if he decides to stop answering your calls you'll get screwed. And even a tiny little dent in my car was $760 to fix, your dent is about 10x the one I had. What happens when the damage is fixed and the repair bill arrives from the shop and he says he won't pay it? Then you'll REALLY be in trouble because you'll be on the hook for the bill. At that point your parents will pretty much have to get involved, and if you think they'll kill you because someone else is a bad driver... wait until they find out you tried to hide damage on their truck, didn't report the damage to the police and/or insurance company as you properly should, and didn't ask for help on something you aren't quite sure how to handle.

Not trying to be condescending but I'm guessing you're fairly young, since it's your parents truck, and there are some things you learn from the bumps in the road of life. This is your turn to learn, so take advantage of the opportunity and do things the proper way.

You didn't do anything wrong, he's the crappy driver regardless of where you parked. Even if you park in a safe spot, there's no help for an idiot who can't drive. So involve your parents, involve the insurance. Your parents aren't going to be mad. They'll be happy you weren't in the truck, you weren't hurt, and that you showed enough responsibility and maturity to tell them and get it fixed properly.

EDIT: A) If he hit 2 vehicles in a week, his insurance SHOULD go up! B) Missed the OP's reply that he showed it to his dad. Well done, sir! You did the right thing.

I got a new flowmaster with new pipes and a full paint job on my 93 Toyota pick up when this old guy hit me like 5-6 years ago. There was some front end damage, but the shop and I both got something out of it lol.

Always, always, always involve the police and insurance companies!!

Like other have already mentioned, there is no recourse if the other party decides to back out of their commitment to pay for damages. With a police report and an insurance claim, they have no choice!

I've met plenty of people who seem honest up front and promise to do the things they should do, and when the chips are down they don't deliver. The fact that he wrote a note and got out of there ASAP makes me question how really stand-up he is. To be honest, I'd probably have called the police before I looked at his info, because my insurance requires a police report. You have to protect yourself.

turn it in! 1) it’s his fualt and he should pay no madder what! 2, it’s not going to be fixed very easy! 3, when he sees the bill he will bail on you. 4, he sounds like a shity driver to hit 2 cars in the same week! and if they are both parked cars he need to be off the road!

also i about got hit parked today as well! bitch was cutting across parking spots and about hit the front of my truck. if she would have hit me(don’t think she even new i was in the truck) the way she was driving and on the phone she prob would not have stopped. but than agin maybe she would have.

Report it. Be glad the guy left any of his info.

I have had a couple of cars hit in parking lots. One was a new Camry. It was actually hit one tow different occasions. Once info was left, one time none. My Tacoma was hit in the parking lot at work before it had even had on oil change. Of course, no info was left.

Another option may be to contact your insurance company and have them deal with the other guy. If they have the name of the responsible party, they may play the heavy for you.

Not reporting that your new truck was damaged by a fool and you want to cover it up and risk getting in trouble w/your parents. Now that's just dumb.
